Red Sable

"I think 2K for a beautiful, trained adult dog with plenty of years left in him is a deal. People pay that and more for puppies all of the time and have no idea what they're getting."

Fine and dandy, but they didn't have to sign a contract that they'd keep the dog FOREVER or lose their money. Dave was a fool, no doubt about it, and I'm sure he is kicking himself 10x over.

I just can't envision signing something like that.  Crazy crazy crazy.

by TessJ10 on 06 January 2011 - 20:01

No, I don't think he was a fool at all if he really only wanted a loving companion.

I really don't see anything unusual about this contract at all; in fact, I don't think it's at all unusual and I might even venture to say it's standard for a lot of people who breed & show dogs and want to find loving, permanent retirement homes for them.  In fact, I've known of quite a few exactly like this:

A Champion show dog of whatever breed.  Owner is still actively breeding and showing, and at 7 years old Ch. Fido is no longer going to the shows.  He isn't getting the attention he got as a younger dog when he was the one getting all the attention: grooming & exercise & travel.

Breeder wants to find a home for Ch. Fido where he can be the star again and get lots of attention.  He's used to it and he deserves it.  It's made clear to the new home that seller says Fido is DONE competing.  It's his time to be a couch potato.  If you know this and you want  him, fine.  But he is to either stay with you or come back to me.  Period.  Yes, this I think is quite the norm in placing older dogs.

In Ch. Fido's time he maybe could've sold for thousands of dollars, but he's older now.  Some people want a Champion dog or a titled dog, or just a physically beautiful dog.  There's nothing wrong with that.  If they didn't want one like that, they could go to the dog pound or answer any old ad in the local paper, but it's worth it to some people to buy a dog with some "achievements" in his past.

Tess, I'll guess we'll have to agree to disagree.   He is to give the dog back, and LOSE all his money, that sure wouldn't be fine with me, not only that, I'll bet my bottom that he thought this dog being SchH III had more balls than it did. (actually not much of a bet, as he said that in his ad)

We'll never know unless he posts here.  Either way, he loses.
Over and out.

"In fact, I've known of quite a few exactly like this..."

Yep, me too and it is not unusual at all.  If the guy wanted a high V, Sch III, KKL I dog that he could show and breed, he should be prepared to pay many times as much for it.

"He is to give the dog back, and LOSE all his money....Either way, he loses."

Or, he can keep the dog he bought for $1500 and have that beautiful, titled companion dog he wanted in the first place.

Howdy,

Imo Dave wanted to make the deal of his life, well, it turned out other wise. Sure enough, one, I believe it was Trixx, oh, the breeder should give the money back, otherwise it is stealing, any HONEST breeder would do this ........
How bizarre.
The only one that was totally clear & honest about the whole deal was the breeder to begin with, insisted on a written contract, made sure the buyer understood what was signed, but yet someone has the balls to call him/her not honest !! Holy cow, I truely hope nobody ever trys to pull a stunt like this on me !!

Everyone in here demands to be taken serious, demands his/her right to be seen as a adault, but yet, when these adaults sign contracts, that they dont like afterwords, it has to be just fine to revoke all this !! What a bunch of ballony, Dave was totally aware of what he signed, unless he was drugged up, he was perfectly aware what the meaning of the written words was, now he is in breach with this contract and others come to his aid......... priceless !!

For all I care, this dog could be 3 legged, with ears standing away in an 90 degree angel from a deformed scull, if the buyer was aware of all this, and he understood all these conditions and still is willing to pay 3000$, why not ?

But hey, Nemo is a V 1, SchH 3, Kkl. 1 Lbz. if the owner wanted to sell him with breeding rights, he could have easily asked for more than 1500 $.

Regards Ulli

Hey Keith, made it safe into 2011 ? All the best to you.

So far so good, Ulli; how have you been, my friend?

Hey Keith,

thanks for asking, everything is fine & dandy. I quit smoking about 4 weeks ago, and I am a bit astonished, that it was possible for me to rather stay calm about this thread, and not to tear it to pices !!

Good for you!  I need to do the same!

Ulli, Happy New Year! I am so glad to hear you quit smoking! I agree with your comments above. The guy signed a contract and that is pretty simple. I guess it requires integrity and trust on both sides. Renee
