Hallo, can anybody tell me if there are hormon testing kits to buy to determine the perfect days for mating. Or can only the vet do them?

There's also premate by camelot farms

I feel the later one breeds a bitch the more hormones she drops to catch for a nice litter. I bred Rosessat last year one time on the 16th day, first litter she gave me ten pups one died immediately, raised 9 pups and sold all equal of size, color, temperment, etc. Just a personal thing that has worked for me, could just be luck have it. but I truly feel the female produces more eggs later on in heat if u do not miss it and breed during the late days u will have a larger healthier litter. Honest!!

Wildthing, Science doesn't follow your theory.. Every bitch is different. My bitch won't even ALLOW a breeding before the 17th day. By your statement I should have huge litters. She will breed for a week so from 17 days till 24... 6 pups. The important thing is knowing when she ovulates. There are several tests out there that vary in technicality and accuracy for home use. After spending mucho-moola on progesterone testing, and also on slides that gave me ill timed advice I learned to listen to my female and the stud dog. (not without losing some hair though!)

Yes I agree with BlackIce, Ovulation period matters alot, I had this bitch mated on the 12th and 13th day and had a litter of 12 puppies which is not a small litter!
