Males usually need about 3 years until they are fully mature physically. They will reach almost their full height by about a year, then may add just a little more height as they fill out. They will add a lot more substance and depth and bulk up until they are about 2 1/2 to 3 years. Females finish earlier, when they are about 2, but you will see a change in a female after she has had her first litter. They get more depth to their body after that first litter, with some their expression changes, and their presence may too. GSD are in their peak when they are 3, 4, and 5 years old, maybe 6. You do not see a lot of dogs being shown that are 6 years and older. At about 6-7 their body changes again and you start to see the effects of aging.
