When feeding once per day, what is the best time of day to feed? (I would like to hear from Birdy on this question, please). Thank you.

flagbike, since this is a public forum... anybody could answer :) I prefer feeding at night when it's time to go to bed.

Since losing a dog to torsion, I feed twice a day, morning and evening. I like to be able to watch my dog after he eats, so the latest I'd feed him is around 6 PM.

I feed their big meal at night around 8 pm, works great for me. But we also leave kibble out during the day in the house, if they need a small snack.

well since it has been so hot, the dogs don't have as much appitite in the morning...I do feed twice a day, but they eat better at night. During the cooler months, they eat very well both morning a night. But I would have to say if you are going to only feed once then feed in the evening, it isn't as hot and the dogs won't drink as much and the food shouldn't swell and twist the tummy giving the food more time to digest befor they get hot during the day..I am just trying common sense here. Flagbite, It all depends on the age of your dog and where the dog stays. I don't think there is any right or wrong way to feed your dog. It's a personal preference and I would assume what is easiest for the dog owner. I like to feed twice a day but my dogs prefer to eat in the morning. Especially if it's hot out. I agree with Het though the dog tends to drink more because of the heat. I don't feed my dogs much kibble either so not as much in tummy to bloat the dog. I'm not sure why you wanted my advice but I hope this is clearer than mud? Have a Great Weekend! Birdy...

For a working dog, that works during the day, food in the a.m. will weigh him down. Being fed in the p.m. will allow him to digest his food at rest overnight, have his bowl movement in the a.m. before working. For a pet or a dog with relatively little physical work it is best to feed 2 meals a.m. and p.m. Mostly because it is kinder to their stomach. I have 2 dogs that have 2 different schedules.
