It depends if your looking for West show line's or working line's(EAST,WEST,OR CZECH). West show line's can run up to $1,000, and the working line's I've found they can run up to $800. It also depends on titles verses NO titles.

I see way too many stud fee's at $1,000 or above.. Many people charge this much because they just paid alot of money for a male(titled or untitled) and want to try and make some money back. The other issue I find is most or many will breed the stud to anything willing to pay.. This is obviously not good for the GSD!!!!! Best Regards, Dennis Johnson www.johnsonhaus.com

I think a fair price for stud fees depends on the individual dog. A fair range is between $600 to $850 VERY RAIRLY would I consider a stud fee at $1000 or more... ...only my opinion guys...don't lose your "lunch"...

Stud fees are just capitalism at work, folks. There is nothing FAIR about those prices. The owners charge what people are willing to pay. It has nothing to do with the actual worth of the dog, only reputation, and the free market economy. Stud fees and puppy prices have been trending up together for years now, and don't hold your breath for a sudden reversal anytime soon. Stud fees sell puppies because it buys access to top males, and people still put more emphasis on the macho male then they do on the female who actually contributes more to the puppies upbringing. I'd like to see the day when owners of top females can charge brood bitch fees for access to THEIR genetics. Ha ha! Yvette

Hundguy, I would have to respectfully disagree that the people charging $1,000 stud fees are willing to breed to anything. In fact I'd almost think it'd be the people charging less but dealing in a higher volume that are the ones breeding to whatever as long as the money is in the bank. Did you ever think maybe some people who have very nice dogs charge more because they are more selective in who they'll breed to??? When I bought my dog I didn't "negotiate" the price because I knew what I was getting and it was a fair price. I paid the money without hesitation because I wanted a top quality dog-the money wasn't an issue and the thought of capitalizing on a high stud fee to reimburse me for him was the furthest from my mind. If the dog sat in my home and never produced a single litter it would not have made a difference to me whatsoever. But with that being said my mama didn't raise me to be a fool either; if you want him as a stud then you shouldn't have a problem paying the fee especially if you have a nice titled bitch you intend to sell her pups for over a grand a piece. People always have the option to go elsewhere and I'd never get offended if they did. I think it also depends on the area and what the demands are if people will pay higher stud fees. But I've said it a million times and I'll say it again you can't get rich or make a serious living on breeding and studding dogs unless you have a sizeable operation, years of an exceptional reputation and the right contacts in place to market your dogs.
