In the last few days I have noticed what appear to be deep tissue bruises in the ears of one of my dogs. They almost look someone pinched them hard and made prints but no one has access to the dog. Dog is acting normal and has appointment with vet tomorrow. Has anyone seen this or have any ideas? Anything I might ask the vet to check for? Dog has all vaccinations, frontline etc. Any help I would appreciate.

I have a couple dogs with this. Been there for years. Don't know how they got there, and it does not bother them. I accept them like callouses on the elbows, sort of a character make up of the GSD. Stephen

Check dog for mites, ask vet to take epitelium under microscop for presents of mites. They like to leave bruises, looks like ear infection I hope my advise will help.

I have one (1) adult male who developed what appeared to be bruises in each ear at an early age. Essentially, when his ears stood the markings were there. Each was fairly symmetrical and had a diamond shape. I attributed it to strong pigment, as was reflected by his coat. As he aged the marks lessened and very nearly disappeared. The inside of his ears are nowadays of such a dark pigment that his tattoo is difficult to read. I had never seen this before, but a littermate had dark blue spots on his tongue. I would presume these are pigment-related unless they appeared suddenly. Bob-O

He could be bruising himself by scratching his ears.

Thank you everyone for your input. We just came home from the vet and she thinks it is pigment changes and the dog is going into her heat. Just wanted to let you know
