Oli,

Moderation is fine.....but throwing people(moderators) out there without your support and guidance from you is not helpful to us, them or YOU!  There needs to be crystal clear guidelines for the moderators and supervision of their activity by YOU!  There needs to be clear consistant checks and balances for the moderators!  Also, the moderators you have chosen have proven to have personal agendas against certain people and if you don't agree with that moderator then ZAP! you are banned with no rhyme or reason or explanation!  Moderators should be known in some fashion so that we who make up the population of this database can communicate with the moderators.  Moderators need to know who each other is so that one hand knows what the other one is doing!    Moderators should also NEVER make members feel as if they MUST agree with the opinion of the moderator and moderators should NEVER ask another member of the database if they would like someone banned!  I am appauled that happened on a thread now deleted.

Oli, the people that were being banned are the MAJORITY population here....they generate a greater amount of revenue then the moderators who are just a MINORITY of the population here!  If the banning continues as it did before then your revenue is sure to drop, sponsors will drop and the your database will have been in vain!  Something to think about....the HUGE amount of people banned here in the past 2 weeks are the very same people who pay your bills for this site.  Do you really want your moderators to run amuck and ban YOUR database out of existance?

Oli, I was joking about your computer "lingo" and how I didn't understand the technical side at all, lol. That's all. ;-)

Oli, I was on a work related website where things were going crazy. The owner started moderation, but there was no way for the mods to talk to each other except via e-mail. Things were still crazy, and the mods felt lost, under attack and VERY frustrated. (I was one of the mods, and got so angry and hurt that I nearly quit.)

THen, we got a moderator-only forum where we could talk to each other and sanity returned. If a poster had a personal beef with you, you could ask another mod to deal with him/her to make sure everything was kept unbiased. If we were in doubt about a decision, we were able to check with the other mods before acting, and get their opinion.

You REALLY REALLY need to find a way the mods can communicate better with each other. A lot of problems could be avoided that way, and they (the mods) have been BEGGING you all along for something like this!  Better communication between the mods is the ONLY WAY you will have consistency in moderation.

It is in the works, but Oli has been really busy. Thank you for your comments. We will very soon be able to pm each other and that will help.

 Oli,

No coding necessary.  You're busy.  Do yourself a favor and just get rid of the mods.  Jim say's your site has become an "unpolishable turd", and I'm beginning to agree.

Oli I definately don't envy what you have to put up with, however I'm glad you do.  Hopefully people can understand that Rome wasn't built in a day, and that you are obviously working to address issues as they arise, despite having a real life that doesn't include this database.

Either way thanks for designing a place where people like me can come to network and learn a thing or two.

Moderators must be NON-BIAS.
Moderators must have names.
Moderators must be held accountable for their actions.

The moderators on this site are not of these.

How can this be fixed?

OLI - thank you for all you do, but can the moderation be improved?

I suggested once before that if each mod was given a title i.e. Mod1, Mod2, etc and a PM box and was identified when they took action against a forum member, many of these problems would take care of themselves, but my post was deleted.

I forgot to add that the site really underwent a lot of upheavel when moderation started. We lost some members, and there were times when things were so rough that the mods just hid out in the moderator forum and licked their wounds.

Things settled down after a month or two, and it is now the largest nursing website on the world wide web!

Sitasmom, I have posted on sites where the mods were anonymous, and had one ID for moderation and another for doing normal posting. I've also posted (and moderated) on sites where this was not the case. Both methods worked. But I agree the mods do need to have their own user name, so they don't always have to post their comments in someone else's post! That's NUTS!
