I've learned that it is the abbreviation for the Leningradskiy Klub Sluzhebnogo Sobakovodstva - Leningrad Club of Service Dogs Breeding--which now goes under the name of Sankt-Peterburgskij Gorodskoj Klub Služebnogo Sobakovodstva [St. Petersburg City Club of Service Dog Breeding].
That organization has a website that includes a history of the club, which is now part of the Russian Kynological Federation, the only Russian dog registry that is recognized by the FCI. The history of what was formerly the LKSS is v-e-r-y interesting...and, at least for me, strengthens certain questions I have regarding the 'dominant black line' of GSDs coming out of Russia in recent years. But that's just me.
The RKF is set up quite differently than the AKC, as seen from the RKF website: it's divided into four federations within the federation. There's the RFLS, which is the Russian Federation of Amateur Dog Breeding; the RFSS, the Russian Federation of Official Dog Breeding; the OANKOO, All-Russian Association of Independent Dog Training Public Associations; and the RFOS, the Russian Federation of Hunting Dog Breeding. Also makes for interesting reading.
