My friend has a 2.5 yr old female..shes good in size and angulations.. Theer r 2 problems.. She eats quite less but even though she has a good structure she is quite lean...the vets have not been able to find any prb here ( the vets here are really not that extensively qualified) But she is very active and playful. but i cant get her her to put on more weight.. the second problem is that when in heat she does not allow a male to mount her at any cost..and becomes very aggressive.. i can see that even though she is desperate to mate she doesnt allow the actual mating and is very very aggressive.. What can can be cause.. Fida

I have a very dominate female that willnot allow a male to mate her, we just do AIs and have no stress and no issues.

Cheers Fida, Female sounds quite healthy to me - nothing wrong with 'lean'.

Has this female been mated before?...I had a female that we were trying to mate and she would do everything but when the male started to penetrate she would scream and pull away...after having a 2nd vet look at her and do a more through exaime...she was found to have a "striture"...this had to be surgerically removed before she could actually mate...she then did mate and had a litter...

I had a very lean male who was a picky eater, he weighed 73lbs. For a year I fed him Eukanuba performance formula (higher fat and protein content) and made sure he ate what was given to him. He now weighs 89lbs, and looks good. See if your dry food brand has a performance formula or use calorie suppliments or try feeding a raw diet. How are her stools, pancreatic insufficiency can also affect weight gain. I had my male tested to see if that was the problem. Occasionally my friend has to muzzle and hold her female's for mating (sometimes using two people holding the front and back). A difficult female will need an experienced male who is an aggressive breeder (Aggressive meaning will dilligently try again and again).

Fida, increasing carbs in her diet might help. I had this problem once - before dry food became affordable in India - and found tapioca(which is called yucca root in USA) helped increase weight. I am not sure if AI is an option for dogs in Bangladesh, but if it is - try that once. Most bitches change for the better after a litter.

I have learned how to do an AI myself and don't have to go to the vet to get it done, if you are alowed to do this then I would learn (have either your vet or an experianced breeder)show you how to do it. I have found that the less stress on my girl the better, better litters, and pregnatcy.
