I'm doing my best to make sure I get a GSD that will be intelligent, healthy, and well tempered.  Through my thorough research, I've come up with a lot of things to avoid in breeders, but nothing mentioning what to look for.  I am a responsible owner looking for a way to get my first GSD and have the best possible experience.

I'm currently in discussions with VonHena-C regarding a new puppy, and I'd like to purchase one from the Juno x Evo line.  You can see it at the bottom of the page here: http://www.vonhena-c.com/German_Shepherd_puppies_for_sale.htm

It seems to be a responsible breeder house that focuses on good temperament, all the dogs check out on OFA and there seems to be some intelligence in the line because of a decent working history.

When all is said and done, I'm a beginner looking for unbiased guidance to help in my decision.  You can post here, or PM me, or email me.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

All the best,

Logan

Interesting thread .. I haven't heard of this kennel before probably due to my location versus theirs.  Nice looking dogs on paper and the pics look good too.  It looks like they do PSA with their dogs and not IPO so much, so maybe that is why they are not mentioned on this site as it is IPO dominated and centric.  Looks like they run the older "foster family" model for a kennel with some of their GSD.  I would love to hear more about the history and track record of this kennel as they import dogs but also are breeding on their own bloodlines which is my interest.  Looks like Hena-C also has more DDR bloodlines in their kennel which is of interest to me.  Schraderhaus on the west coast may have some similar DDR type dogs and bloodlines I believe.  I'd like to hear something good about this kennel if they are the real deal and they seem to be.

Thought the web site looked pretty impressive as most do.  However, I do recommend going and meeting puppies in person to see which pup fits your needs best.  Good luck in choosing and be sure to take advantage of the trainers they recommend but also go and watch them in action if at all possible before choosing a trainer for your puppy.  Best of luck  Nan

LoganW this is an amazing response to your inquiry .. complete silence.  This kennel appears to have been at it for a long time yet no one knows a things about them.  If they have been breeding dogs for many years and have never had a complaint or customer complaint they must be living a cloistered life.  Even the Monks of New Skete can get a bad review on this forum.  LoganW I suggest that you try another forum for references and comments as the Hena-C dogs look great but you should do some more investigation and visit HenaC if you can.  Thanks for introducing me to the Hena-C kennel and I intend to find out more about Hena-C and their GSD.

Bubbabooboo and Nans,

Thanks for offering up some of your advice!  In regards to your last post, there have been a couple of PM's some offering great praise and mentioning shared lines between the dogs I'm looking for and their own breeding house, and one mentioning that they have had bad experiences with easily spooked dogs.

I think when all is said and done, it sounds like the best way to tell personality wise is to meet the parents and to meet the litter.  I'm trying to plan a date when the puppies are at least 4 weeks and I'll update this thread to let you guys know how it went.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Best,

Logan

Just in case anyone else comes to this thread.  I found some more information that is pretty positive here: http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/choosing-breeder/163069-von-hena-c.html

and here: http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/choosing-breeder/142065-personal-recommendations-breeders-ma-area-ct-nh-etc-more-details-here.html

Also, on a personal note, I have decided to proceed with Von Hena-C kennels after very thorough research, a few private messages / responses on this site, and speaking with the breeder personally.  I'm in the process of trying to plan a meet and greet to meet the puppies, the kennel, and the parents once the puppies are old enough to visit with people.

I have been waiting 6 years to get this dog and I've finally reached a position in my life where it's appropriate and I will be able to provide a good home.  I'm even more excited by how helpful everyone in these forums has been, thanks for all the help!

All the best,

Logan

Your question has introduced me to a new breeder on my radar. Thank you!  I am extremely partial to the Eastern bloodlines.

I talked to Pam years ago when I was looking for a new GSD. The only reason I didn't buy one of her dogs was that she kept vascilating between 2 dogs trying to decide which to use to sire the litter, wasn't sure when the female would come into season. I'm not a person who waits very long to get a new dog after I lose one, so I didn't want to keep waiting for another dog. I haven't looked at her site recently,  she was titling her dogs at that time. That dog was to be my first workingline so I wanted to be sure it was from parents who had proven themselves in some way. I didn't know as many WL breeders then as I do now, so I would make a different choice for a  WL breeder today, but I wouldn't discourage others from considering one of her dogs either. Good luck....

I had a male out of one of Pam's stud dogs, Klockows Wasdy,(zorro laagerwall son) bred to a friend of mines bitch...He was the best , most bomb proof dog I will ever have had the pleasure of living with...Aloof yes, anyone could do anything to this dog and he would tolerate it..My heart dog:(  lived a healthy life until 13 years of age.

I now have a granddaughter of Pam's Reiko v hena c, love her to death..She's a little higher on the defense side of things, and quite the energizer bunny, but has matured nicely am very happy with her.

My suggestion as others, go visit her, meet her dogs, decide from there.

Diane
