Doug- I think I posted that He WONT do FR?.. He is to big. I understand that the GSDs big frames, and slower reaction is going to prevent them from doing well in FR. (shhh.dont tell him that..lol)(someday my mali will come..shhh.) I LIKE FR, though. Fun to watch! I always end up holding my breath during the object guard...And then laugh at the dogs when the decoy gets the basket oh so casually...right out from under them...:-) I was looking into Mondioring. I have been researching it quite a bit lately. I like it, looks cool! As for SchH, well its a good sport, BUT I find it a bit dull to compete in, and to watch... Long and drawn out with a "pattern" to follow everytime. Cant bring myself to get into it. But there is NOTHING wrong with it! I am going to train KC to track since I got beat up for not wanting to in another post.. And got some good info to boot! I live in a suburb of Cincinnati Ohio. My GSD is about 86lbs? And is DDR, but neutered, and I got him when he was 10months-16months old, and NO formal training, so I am starting at the begining where others would be so much further... grrr. I hope in a couple years to get a Mali. (don't tell my hubby....) And get into FR at that time! But in the mean time, its me and big ole KC...

Ringsports is interesting...I always like watching videos of them better than Schutzhund. I'm thinking of crosstraining my dog once he titles at least a BH, he may do okay, for a GSD. 76 pounds and needs no stimulation at all to bite. If he can't get jute or linen in his mouth he stuffs it with grass and rocks. I think it's just that ring sports have evolved with the Malinois in mind, it's not that a German Shepherd can't do them, it's just that most people with good shepherds prefer not to do them. That and you show up with a GSD, more often than not you're laughed right through training. Can't count how many times ring people have told me my dog probably will suck without having seen him. :p

Here is a link to the 2003 North American ring sport Nationals. http://www.famtreasures.com/DogPages/frenchring.htm I've seen one of the Finals in France that is really impressive. It has a few GSD's too. I'm looking but have not been able to find it. I'll keep trying. Enjoy!

Some years ago I saw two excellent ringsport GSD's doing training in France: a male from Körbelbach and a female from Kirchberghof.

One of our girls would like this I think. She has the "to heck with the sleeve, give me the guy" attitude. She would be quick enough too.

I was hooked the first time I saw French Ring. If you turn the volume down on one of those videos the decoy almost looks like a bull fighter. French ring is amazing, you have to go see it to beleive it.

I have limited exposure to Mondio but have seen one male GSD during training and he was quite impressive. He was medium sized and very athletic. Have also been around and worked mals and when you get a good one they are very impressive. Most of them are lighter and quicker than GSD. I kept one for awhile and helped train it and it could jump like a deer.

I LOVE the videos! And I just cant get enough of them. I know I have seen some great GSDs in Mondioring, and I am hoping that even though KC is larger, i know that he is athletic. Quick to change direction, and can jump from a stand still about 6ft straight up.. (I know this cuz I am 6ft tall, and he can get the ball from my hand over my head, with me eyeing his groin..) Although nowhere NEAR as athletic as a Mali of course, but pretty good for a GSD, he kicks my Shibas butt out in the yard, and my shiba is VERY agile and quick. (quick enough to catch birds mid flight..) So, crossing my fingers here... All I have to do is find a club.... havent found any close so far. *sigh*
