GSDLover, No problem, those are some good questions, Im learning as well. Ask away, please!

So you have very fast and athletic decoys doing everything in there power to make the dog miss coupled with some very difficult jumps. There are German Shepherds that do well in FR. The just flat cannot physically compete in this sport with the malinios. There are GSD that do well and make it to the selectiffs (kind of like a Regional event but it is difficult to explain) but very few that make it to the "Cup" and/or the Finales. Hope this helps some. P.S. Drives are a whole different subject and I sure have gotten into some heated ones on that subject, but the majority of FR is done in prey.

I was referring to FR and Mondio Ring, I didnt know there were the others. Again, I opened up a door for more research. Thanks for all the input and info everyone.

Get A Real Dog, So youd say that the Malinois has more drive to do FR or Ring Sport as well as having quicker or more swift movement enabling the Malinois to get the work done quicker? The Malinois is just a higher drive, more agile and faster dog?

Get a Real Dog, Our DVG club has Mals, Dutchies, as well as GSD's. I hate to agree but I think FR is something the Mal's and Dutchies could run circles around todays GSD doing. Ouch, that hurt to say that..... :) Tina

hahaha! I hope nobody slams you for that Get A Real Dog. So what type of GSD would do good? A high drive Medium size Female? Do you think that a GSD once trained for Schutzhund could then go on to learn Ring or would that be too much work and easier to just train one or the other? Thanks Get A Real Dog!

The Mali has been bred to retain his working ability. The Mali is not asked to be a house dog, sheep herder, seeing eye dog, stick to strict conformation or look pretty in a ring. Mali's are built for speed. Some Malis are so high in drive they are not good in the house. Which is the same for some GSDs. Kyle
