Again all, thanks for your different inputs. Like I said before I enjoy watching a pretty gait (what I thought was correct).
My next question is this: At the Show are the judges wanting/accepting the over-reaching that I am referring too?
Desert Ranger; in the video on Fanto he is gaiting for a quarter mile side by side with his handler OFF LEASH. So the churning isn't there but the natural ability of the dog at his maximum.
Jonah:I had a Fanto granddaughter many years ago that was a great bitch, I agree with your assessment of Fanto in reference to males. But truthfully, Fanto doesn't possess the phenotype that I expect good males to come from. His body type is like a handsome man, not the strong ruuged type I like to see in males.JMO
I watched the westminister video with following observations if I had been judge.
The winner: Way overangulated, too thin, weak head, narrow hips and back legs almost rub together. I also detected some anxiety possibly.(white on chest)
2nd Place: I liked this one best of all. Angulation better, nice build and seemed to have good nerves.
3rd place: Pretty much a repeat of the winner.
Ok guys, how did an ole working dog guy do on judging showdogs?
I thought the back ends on the Westminster dogs were sloppy too. Some stacked couldn't even hold the leg strait, it bent to the inside instead of strait up and down. Some where knocking knees. The bodies of these dogs were a little more sunstantial than the WG dogs but the WG dogs seemed put together more seemlessly. I know my WG girls body is a bit thin, not enough muscle mass for my taste but her legs are perfect and her gate is rather nice compaired to my other dogs. From the side she looks beautiful the fornt as well in motion but I hate her rear end moving away. Her legs are fine its the muscle in the rear legs that bug me.
Now compair her to Baden, even at 7 months this dog has a ghetto booty, so much muscle in his thighs it's crazy! His sister seems to be developing this huge muscle mass behind as well, at 4 months. It is interesting to compair them. My rescues of unknown origin are smack damn in the middle of the 2 extremes.
I'm sure the fact the winner had Jimmy Moses on the other end of the leash had something to do with the win.
Did you notice the #3 dog had crooked front legs? I was surprised to see it place after I noticed that!
Also, in the Esthaus videos, take a close look at Quinn! It's not just the American dogs that are overangulated...nearly the whole of that dog's leg, right up to the hock is hitting the ground when it trots! UGH!
Yes I noticed the hit the ground like a rabbits back leg, the whole thing from toe to knee, that can't be comfortable. I saw the crooked front legs too, I just wondered if it was me, or just the camera angle, the ankles were turned out, making the front feet flop in durring motion.
4pack
I was suprised to see this was the best at Westminister!..
Yeah me too, this is the best we got?! Sad, I'd like to at least see correct. Maybe next year I will enter one of my own, shoot, they aint too bad after seeing that! LOL
Apparently you hire the "right" handler and you might win! lol
Shows need people like me judging because I would pick the best dogs and could care less who the owner and handler are.
