I'm not looking to start an argument, I just recall that there was a fairly even split on the pros and cons and am wondering if, after 8+ years if there has been any updates to people's thoughts/experiences.

So this is why I like to get both done. Good luck with what ever you choose. Atleast you are being responsible.

OFA is a consensus of 3 specialists that the dog shows no evidence of HD.
I guess I like the SV system best, that takes into account family/sibling findings.
a dog can be OFA/penn hip from a litter full of not passing or a fail from a litter of passing. that's a pretty wide spectrum.
nothing is perfect yet.

hexe Yes, I agree with you.
There are members that do send into OFA PENNHip testing to be verified. As members complain of dog Health Testing by these other USA Labs it is now required to send this information to OFA to be verified on their site otherwise not allowed on the PDB. I receive PM's from members finding dogs stating OFA tested but not Verified on OFA as they do check. If testing is not found on OFA this information is now removed.

Are you saying that I can send in PENNHip testing/results to OFA and OFA will verify and link the results to my puppy's OFA record?
Or that Database members submit PENNHip test results to their dog's profile, BUT because those results can not be OFA verified they can't be linked on the Database?

RLHAR There are dogs on the PDB that OFA has on their site for PENNhip testing results. Admins receive PM's from PDB members reporting USA lab Health testing results are not on the OFA site but PENNhip has not been one of them as yet. If these other USA labs like GenSol, Embark, etc. are used results do need to be sent into the OFA to be verified. These USA labs are not to be entered on PDB just OFA verified results are.

I am over the moon!
Also per OFA, who I called directly, will verify and attach PENNHip records to a dog's profile IF that dog already has an established profile with OFA. For example I had submitted my puppy's DM results, so he has an OFA profile already established and his PENNHip results will be added to that profile.
There is a fee involved, and I was also told that OFA still feels their way of doing things is superior. ;)

RLHAR That is great news you got OFA PENNHip rating on their site. The fee OFA charges is well worth the cost. OFA is superior for getting the proven testing results
