Coat? - Page 1

Hi Folks, what coat length is this? We are getting a pup from her and the stud is a short stock coat all black. The video we got of the pup was taken at 5 days old and he looks identical to the mothers puppy photos at the same age, so we are assuming he will have the same colors and coat length:) Just want to know what is the correct term here,lol. Top Photo is a screen shot of our boy:) Bottom pic is mom.

at this point looks like a sable, stock coat to me.

The mother looks like a "long stock coat", sable.

Pup looks too young to tell coat length, but definitely sable. I don't think he'll be quite as dark as mom though.

That is one stocky female! What is her pedigree? My guess she goes back to DDR lines due to her structure and colouring.   Hope your pup is everything you expect - have fun with him!

There some nice old DDR-lines dogs in the pedigree. Good luck with the pup. Are you going to do dog sport with him?

there are indeed pretty good dogs further back in pedigree but matching for breeding lately looks like turned toward production of "fashion dogs" rather than to keep old type DDR.
long coated GSDs wasn't popular back then in DDR but today seems presented and pushed into the market under tag "old type german shepherd dogs".

Hi guys, yes, planning on doing sports, The parents both do IGP and SAR work (man trailing).
