It sounds like that puppies are in demand everywhere.
What happens to the pups/dogs after this COVID nightmare ends and then the children and adults get bored and start coming up with excuses to rid themselves of the dogs and the shelters are filled with unwanted animals.
I hope breeders are diligently screening and are prepared for this and it’s in the contract to return the dog to the breeder.

Yes a lot of people are worrying about this; rescue organisations are already feeling the effects and we ain't anywhere near out of the woods yet...I guess some pups were got shot of as soon as first 'lockdown' periods were declared over, (and maybe others bought, as public went into 2nd lockdowns wherever applicable).

I think the GOOD breeders will be doing as they always do & taking cognisence of the situation, rather than using it as a profit opportunity. But we know, don't we, that for every thoughtful well-intentioned breeder out there, who will stress returns and help in their contracts, there's at the very least a dozen & more others who will have taken every advantage of the increased demand - and who will not give a toss about resulting problems down the line. Research shows a good proportion of buyers STILL do no research; STILL impulse buy from the Internet; and still get rooked, with puppies being sick or non-existent, and even when they get lucky and they get an initially healthy pup, there is no follow-through or ongoing contact, or 'returns policy' or any other sort of help. And yes, the shelters are all going to be working VERY hard; and it is awfully sad because so much is avoidable, if only people would value the ongoing well-being of dogs and THINK before they buy.

Agree with both of you. Can't believe how much prices have risen for pups and kittens not even pedigreed!! Crazy.....and people actually pay this kind of small fortune to the breeders.

They have rising over here by about 1100 euros .it is 50 50 whether ther registered or not .I always thought they were priced very low here but this is not the way to do it. I have not breed a liter in over 2 years and probably won't for an other 2 .

The dogs I'm buying these days are priced the same, but cost of shipping has gone nuts as have the requirements. From my last conversation with KLM I'd bet it's largely due to the rescue organizations importing enormous numbers of animals without proper paperwork etc. They say they have seen a ton of problems recently so they implemented new, stricter requirements (which of course cost $500-1000 extra on top of the already-higher than normal shipping rates).
