How is it that Magic Johnson cantracted HIV so many years ago and is still alive and fat? I'm serious. Can someone please explain this?

Can't remember all the medical jargon but in layman's terms I believe the two are different diseases; HIV virus and AIDS. Magic is a home boy and when that happened the Michigander community was devastated. And even when the true Maize and Blue, (U of M) despised anyone that wore Green and White, (MSU) we were devastated, shocked and still wished him well. One of the best basketball players in College/NBA history.

LOTS of people who are HIV -positive have lived, literally, for decades, now, because of the medications available. IF they are welathy and/or have very good insurance, they can live well for decades with the HIV+ status. Magic is a multi-millionaire, and (probably) has a NBS pension that includes high level insurance coverage. I know people who are middle-class, with good insurance, who have been HIV+ for more than a dozen years.
