There're few brand of puppy food out there, which make it difficult to choose which is best for my 12 weeks old pup. Any advice would be appreciated. Kobe

Royal Canine is an excellent food for puppies or adults...but here in the USA I have been using Eukanuka Puppy for Large Breeds and have had excellent success for the past 3 or 4 litters...I find that it does a very good job on the puppies and when they're adults I switch them over to Eukanuba Large Breed Performance...this is what I use on my working/trialing dogs and have seen a good level of energy and keeps them in good form throughout their working lives...

Seems like everyone has jumped on the Royal Canin bandwagon lately... don't care much for Eukanuba.... Been using Blackwood for some time and have had good luck with it..... we used the puppy formula for the last litter and boy, they did well... they dove into the bowls and cleaned everything up right away. The pups had great stools too! (Now come on, can there really be a discussion of food without poop quality as well!?) I do switch my pups over to adult by the time they are 12 weeks or so and they do fine on it also.....

I agree with switching to the adult, as the puppy food will make the pup grow to fast. Heather

Kobe, you should read Whole Dog Journal. Twice a year they review and recomend dry and can foods. Very informative. As for pukanuba, try something else, was a good food once but proctor and gamble bought them and they are now on the not recommended list for their ingredients. As for Blackwood, it is made by Donnae pet foods and what you are getting is Ol Roy with some added stuff. I mean same raw ingredients. Royal Canin is a good food, on the recommended list. Could say alot about food but not enough room. Just do some research.

We subscribe to the Whole Dog Journal - and I think Royal Canin is probably a good food -- So are Innova and Wellness - but we use ABADY. It's not easy to get depending on where you live - and yes, it's very expensive. But I'd rather put it in the front end of the pups, and not pay the vet later. We raise pups that we keep on a STRICTLY RAW MEAT DIET (Growth Formula) until they are at least 7 months old - usually longer - We have the healthiest dogs we've ever had. Poop quality - excellent -- poop size -- SMALL - Considering the quantity input -- There are other raw diets around - but just because a label says the product contains chicken - that doesn't mean it was a diseased chicken that wasn't good enough for anything else - so they put it in Dog Food -- (that goes for dry foods as well !!)

I'm another one who doesn't feed puppy food. Once they're on solid food, they get the same thing all of the other dogs get, Canidae.

Yep! Whole Dog Journal is a great tool. You can purchase back issues of WDJ were they have done the dog food comparisons. We use a Super Premium Human Grade dog food for our dogs...Flint River Ranch Trout and Sweet Potato. Our vet always comments on the great condition of the dogs coats and we believe it contributes to the deep reds. Agree that Wellness is another great product. ****The main items you do not want in your dogs food is:Meat by-products, Corn, Food Fragments, Meat and bone meal, Animal Fat, Chemical Preservatives, Sweeteners, Beef Tallow I too rather spend more $ on the food then at the vet.
