This food is typically sold in many different discount store chains for about $0.20/pound, and is perhaps the cheapest dog food available in the U.S.A.. I will say that there were constant quality control tests made, as far as the levels of crude protein, fat, and density. The dog food scare that happened earlier this year did not affect this operation, as they sourced the meat meal mix from other sources. But, It did cause a lot of investigation to begin and continue. I will say that quality as far as adherence to published standards, as well as sanitation was done properly with constant inspection.
But, in the beginning through the end I was amazed (I'm sure there are other words but I won't use them here) at the amount of corn used in the dog and cat food blends. The use of the enzymes amazed me as well, but after being in a very intimate relationship with the manufacture of this food as well as dogs I understand why they are present. But in the end, the Ing. Robert Forbus is very happy to again work as an engineer (really more of a corporate dweeb these days, LOL!) instead of climbing ladders that are one-hundred thirty-five (135) feet in height on cold and rainy winter nights in order to keep the process moving. It was a real job-it was an adventure, but I am glad that it came to an end a month or so ago. In closing, please never ask who, because I'll never tell. I trust that none of us feed this type of food to our beloved GSD's.
Regards,
Bob-O

Welcome back from Dantes' Inferno. All kidding aside, I figure if the food met the government guidelines, it's quite likely more expensive foods are just more expensive, not better. I'm so glad I switched to RAW.

Bob-O. Interesting. However, everytime I see an investigation of what and how human food is handled, prepared, mixed, etc. I want to stop eating just about everything. Of course, being human, in about four hours I forget what I heard and just open another can of beef stew and warm it up and eat it.
If memory serves me correctly, the government standard for the amount of rodent feces allowed in human foods (cereal, etc.) is .2 percent.
Let's see. Hmmm. I could give up everything I usually eat, raise my own insecticide free veggies (in season), raise my own free range chickens (which I presently do) and eat much healthier that way, or just keep doing what I do. And:
I could spend a whole lot more on dog food, after investigating how they test it, to make sure they do not harm dogs in their scientific tests and such, or just buy a middle of the road priced dog food and be done with it. And:
I could research which companies that produce shampoo, cosmetics, etc, etc, and how they test and produce their products, and pay a lot more. And:
I could investigate who owns and profits from the cars I buy, the fuel I buy, the........Oh, just forget it.
My brain is hurting from all of this investiagting. I am going to stick with my Ford truck, which I haul my Dinty Moore beef stew, my Kelloggs Corn Flakes, my Purina Dog Chow, my CVS brand dandruff shampoo, my BIg Macs, etc, etc, in.
What the hell is a person supposed to do. Be very selective in his food and his dogs food selection, avoiding those that are owned by the Moonies, the Muslims, the companies that cut corners, that do not torture animals in their testing and production procedures, buy my clothing from manufactures that don't exploit third world children,. Or, just get by the best way I can, avoiding the really outragious ones, and save as much money as I can, so I can take my Grandchild to an amusement park now and then, and hope I don't take him on a ride that cuts his feet off. Hmmm. Maybe I will just buy my own island and raise my own food and make my own clothing. Nope, can't really afford all that nor do I have the energy or know how, to accomplish that, so:
Guess I will just stop at Micky D's and pick us up some Big Macs and a Chicken Nuggets Happy Meal, and give the left overs to my egg laying chickens and my pooches, and burn the paper product leftovers, and recycle the plastic products, etc., the best way I can.
I am a Super Hero, but I ain't perfect.
Man, life sucks, and I only have one. She-itt.

Thanks Bob-O that was really nice of you to share!! I feed a RAW diet with some additions like a little rice or pasta and canned fish, anyway some stuff ain't RAW! I just bought a bag of Origen dog food . It was $60.00 with shipping! I never bought anything that expensive before. The dogs seem to think it is OK but like RAW better..... shoulda known that!
