Hi all! I'm new to the forum and registered to see if I can find out if there are any people in Washington state that are practicing, or interested in training in Mondioring? I'm looking into moving to Seattle in six months or so, and have not had any luck finding any clubs in that area that exist. I'm not very far along in my training with my pup and would be open to working in IPO if that's what it comes down to, but am crossing my fingers that there are some Mondio people somewhere in that area!

I'd love to know if anyone in Washington have had any luck finding some Mondio clubs/trainers to work with!

Thanks in advance!!

Anneliese

Okay, now to hear from someone who actually  LIVES in Seattle, Washington..  There are NO Mondio ring clubs in the Seattle area, and I know of none in Washington, period.   While Washingont State used to be the hot-bed for French Ring, it is now down to only 2-3 clubs on Western Washington.   They are all in areas some distance from Seattle.  By "some distance" I mean  2-3 hours driving, plus a ferry ride.

There are several Schutzhund/IPO clubs, but again, none in the immediate Seattle area. Two are located in Tacoma (approx. 25 miles south of Seattle), one in Snohomish (an hour north of Seattle), and one in Olympia (approx. 1 hr/ 60 miles south of Seattle.).  All but Snohomish are right near I-5, so it is virtually a straight shot down the freeway.  Snohomish' s "itinerary"   "sounds" more complicated, involving three state roads, two different interstates, and a series of country roads, but, it is also only an hour from Seattle.  All of the clubs, except Shohomish,  which is WDA/GSDCA, are USCA clubs.  (Rumor has it that Snohomish is returning to USCA.)

While there are no clubs actually in Seattle, for the first time in over 20 years, there are several schutzhund/IPO folks living in Seattle, so who knows--perhaps by next spring there will be club members from one or more of the clubs doing some work-week training in , or around, Seattle proper.  Teeth Smile

BTW IDSC/wookk9 is Bart De Gols and not a club.  It is located in Yelm, Washington, one interstate,  through a forest, then through the Nisqually Reservation,  and rural roads to Yelm.  The driving time is also about an hour.

Feel free to contact me via PM, if you have questions.

Hello from another Western WA resident,

Actually, Snohomish is now officially back in USCA.

Good luck with your move and finding a club that works for you.

No more Pierre doing FR on the Peninsula?    I remember going to a FR seminar years ago (in the 80's) , it was held on the Olympic Peninsula in the Shelton area.     It was a weekend event, with a seminar and trial, and a judge from France.    I went with some friends from Vancouver Island who had Bouviers, I had a Mal pup.     I particularly remember Pierre (the seminar host?) had a Dachsund that was trained in PP and the judge put on the suit pants to give this little dog a bite.    I wish that I had the pic of the little dog hanging off the butt of the judge - priceless, lol.

Pierre went back to Canada several years ago.  Regular Smile   His base of operations became Tacoma, Washington.    Pierre was in many ways the "Godfather" to Ring in the US.  He may well have been the reason for so many Ring clubs in the Pacific Northwest. Back then, I could attend Ring trials that were within an hour of Seattle, and usually much less time.  There were  at double-digit clubs:  in Tacoma, Battle Ground, Portland, Whidby Island, Yelm,  at least three in BC.  I think the last event Pierre was involved with was the Working Bouvier National Championshp and show held in Auburn(?) Washington  the weekend that John F. Kennedy Jr.'s plane went down.

Hmmm, thanks for the update Mystere, it was such a long time ago but we all had such a good time that I havefond memories of that seminar/trial.      Wherever Pierre is, I hope that he's still training FR - he's the person who made the sport there at that time and introduced a lot of us to it.
