Looking for your input regarding a new source for 'Ball on a Rope'. I have been using the Elite K9 ones for a while now, but i go through them pretty quick and @ 9.95 each + $15 for S&H, I think I have become open for other ideas :)

What do you guys use? How well do they hold up and are you willing to share your source?

Thanks in advance

I use Kong balls, and supply my own rope. The medium sized ball (about tennis-ball sized) comes with a hole through the middle so you can thread a rope through. Like all Kong toys, they are very tough!

Cutaway,

Which size do you use of the Elite balls and how long do they last you?

I found that using the smallest ball they make works best in OB since the dog doesn't chomp it as much as the mid size one.  The large one I've only seen a few dogs who would work for that one.

The gappay balls are the best I have used.  I bought 4 (2 medium 2 large) balls abour 6 years ago.  I am still using them.  I have anywhere from 5 to 10 dogs at a time...they are AWESOME...and Jim's company is awesome.

I agree that the larger Elite balls don't hold up well and the small one is too small not to present a choking hazard, IMO, even with the rope.

The balls Hallmark sells are very good, both the Gappay and the Frabo balls.  Roy Sorensen also has some that I like...not sure who makes them...but last I knew he (still) doesn't have a website so you almost have to catch him at a show.

BC, concerned about your size reccomendation, no difficult thing for an adult gsd to inhale and have one of those smaller sizes go down it's throat, messy. disposed of anything smaller than the large kong and put my own rope on it.

I've gotten mine from Activie dogs. The one I have had about a year and a half now, and the other about 9 mos... they are still in great shape. My only issue with them is that the string is kind of long and "looped", so every now and then my dog will catch her paw on it.
