gsd student . It is not testing and  it is not blue haired ladies. It is  today's pussified PC culture which is at fault.  And I am sticking to it. .

I just truly wish I could go back four decades or so and get the temperment of the dogs that caused me to love the doberman

Prager, do you really  think I can't find photos of old white haired men with their "pussifed" dogs?  It's today's culture that defines the way many people treat their dogs like children, nothing whatsoever to do with the gender of those owners. You might want to think about what you say before pressing the send button.

There is no shortage of dogs of all breeds that are suitable for protection, K-9 work, sport, show,  OB etc.. Anyone can find a dog to suit their needs and desires. Why not just live and let live and stop putting down everyone who has a different take on dog ownershp.

Blitzn - baby!- calm down  you moral indignation. OOOOOHMMMMMmmmmmm.... .  It was a joke and on top of it  I said just about  exactly the same thing as you did ( about the culture and white haired and bold man) before you did. Maybe you should think first before you push the button. Or at least read the post before you go off the deep end and critisize it. Wink Smile

@rtdmmcintyre they are still out there. Just vote with your dollar and support the breeders who have them . That is the only way they will get preserved.  If you love Dobes stick with them. The breed needs people like you. Be loyal to the breed  Do not go the GSDs or got forbid to Mals

the good dobes are harder to find.  Titling preserves the breed.  The percentage of dobermans that is title as compared to just shown is very low.

Here in the US the "sport" mags list the breed of the dog.  Go find a doberman getting a title.  Correlates with the weakening of the breed.

PP and PD work sure as hell isn't going to save any breed.

Sport being the best game in town, still changers incorrectly  the breed. Modifies the breed  into something it should not be and was not intended to be. In comparison to others venues or no venues sport is lesser evil but  still it is  evil.  There are other programs which are much better. Like Swedish evaluation program  the old z PS program, Tie up test and so on. Unfortunately they do not have much chance. In principle the Swedish approach is great for  testing dogs genetic make up and it is well organized in its country of origin. But there is missing testing for traits important to the genetics of the breed of GSD and other breeds.

As far as PP and LE and military dogs  goes it  is the only thing which holds the GSD above the water.  If we would not have that then it would be all over for the breed as a working breed and all we would have would be sport breed.  The Dobermas are not used in LE anymore and thus they are in tremndous decline.  Only dedicated breeders catering to demand from working groups and entusiasts  can save the breed.

That's what I love about the PDB. Lots of people making dumb statements about stuff they know nothing about. Those are show Dobermanns NOT Working Dobermann. I can find 10X as many videos of Seiger shows where Showline GSD's look as bad or worse then any Dobermann on that video.  Isn't there a breeder you guys can bash.

Thanks Thomas,

I was thinking how the nice pigment, shining coats and all around super good looks went unnoticed.
