king sheperds, nice dogs.my history with that "type" of working dog goes back when i was a kid, just before Pres.Kennedy died,my family was lucky enough to be adopted by a dog that had a white spitz for a sire and a saint bernard for a mother-born november of 1956 died 1974 or 75.now my father was a marine and in 1965/6 he broke his back,so we had tough times but not only did this dog help make us some money for bills by pulling handmade wagons, and sleds/skowels in the cities of cambridge, and somerville massachusetts.at our grand parents in bayview, gloucester he would tow our row boats for miles(he loved the cold salt water)that dog actually taught us kids and adults dogmanship,he has been my personal standard for good natured behavior.

I am glad you had such a wonderful companion!

However, to call this dog a king shepherd 'type' is completely mistaken. The spitz breed is a northern breed closely related to the husky. The St. Bernard is related to flock guardian dogs such as the Swiss Mountain Dog. Neither breed is a shepherd.

King shepherds are actually a very recent breed that split off from the Shiloh shepherd. Both breeds are most closely related to the German shepherd, though other blood has been added in.
