I have just recently purchased a German Shepherd Pup. She is 5 Mo. old. Lately she has been stretching her back legs. Is this due to her growing or is it something I should be concerned about. I worry about hip problems. Any input would be appreciated.

I'm not sure it's something to be worried about. My malinois at a year old stretches her hind legs all the time. It's the very first thing she does when she gets up from been laying down for too long.

If you're concerned, have x-ray of hips at 6 months and have it sent to OFA (www.offa.org) for preliminary evaluation.

I think most dogs stretch when they get up.

I've always been told that if your dog stretches out and has their back legs straight out the back...that that meant the dog had good hips or at least was willing to stretch out that much...If they had either bad hips or was hurting they wouldn't want to stretch like that...
It's a very natural thing...To stretch...I don't think you have anything to worry about....

My mali stretches too when she wakes up from a nap in her crate. Sometimes she'll be naughty and jump up on the door and then realize she is in the perfect position for stretching and proceeds.
