I've met a handful of nice DDR dogs, however, a great deal of dogs with undesirable traits swapped over when the wall came down and it's not surprising at all either.

We've got some DDR blood in ours too. Neumans Janko, Lord vom Gleisdreieck etc.

I've met one seriously nice DDR dog that I wouldn't mind using even though he's not titled. Superb structure, nice defense, high threshold, low to medium drives. He's a out of Vielhauers breeding and a Kirsche x Durbas son, linebred on Brando. One thing I don't like about this dog is that he's a serious escape artist, other than that, super super dog, despite the low-medium drives. His temperament and strong nerve is what makes him appealing.

op; to correct this aggression will kill or hurt his drive? it was a question 3 dozen pages ago. seancircus, Prey drive can be extinguished. An example of this statement is the effort all good dog owners make to stop their dogs from chaseing cars. The prey drive towards cars is trained out of the dog. Defence drive can not be extinguished. But at some point in defence behavior a stressed dog will go from fight to flight. So, it is still present [ defence drive ] but becomes very unattractive to the LEO.

I have found that the more pronounced a puppy shows defensive behavior , the closer they are to flight behavior. In that case a correction will inhibit the ''fight'' drive but it was already the wrong behavior and very close to flight .

So what I have learned today that legendary oldschool defense DRR/CZECH
dogs are in reality nothing more than a mythe like Whodini master escape

 

For sure there have been some outstanding dogs, and these dogs are still present in current pedigrees, they proofed themselves, but neither the label "DDR" nor the label "Czech" or anything else does "guarantee" quality.

I am far away from being an expert in "East" dogs, but as far as I recognized most of the famous DDR ancestors that are still known and linebred on have been sport dogs, owned by private handlers, not "boarder patrol dogs".

It was a big mess with these dogs when the wall fell, I remember more than well, very sad, but a lot of these dogs were that unsocial and neurotic that there was no chance to adopt them.

Well, what I learned, not today, but over the past 20 years is that there are plenty a great German Shepherd dog, still out there...
As the lord says, "Seek and you shall find", don't really matter what lines you are talking about,
There are good and bad in all....alot of crappy owners/trainers and know it alls throughout also. Many of which make a good dog bad..

What ddr lines do you have?

I know of a " beyond civil " DDR male currently in the south that in being bred. He is def a "bite the hand that feeds him type " . Line 11 old DDR blood . Pm me if interested for contact info.

Looking at the pedigrees of the dogs of this Romanian kennel Mithuna and Shawnicus are enamored of, I quite honestly don't see anything particularly unique about the lines being used. Not that they're undesirable or ho-hum lines or anything like that--just that I don't find some 'secret sauce' dogs in the mix that are allegedly bringing in super-amped defensive drive and over-the-top civil temperament that only rarefied and manly individuals are capable of handling. Looks like a basic mix of West German, DDR, Czech, Belgian and Dutch working lines, to be honest.
