blitzen, calling troll does not make you not a troll.
on the topic of weak dogs, there is an unnamed trait, i prolly am imagining it but folks talk of versatility etc so cos of my access to certain resources i had some SAR junkies want to do some "wilderness" training that i could provide wilderness for. it did not go so well for the dogs, they fell apart early on and the leader canceled the training. maybe just lack of exposure but the dogs did not perform as expected when things started to get deep.
i am getting at concepts like a dog to thermo-regulate, pace itself and look after itself by itself in an environment that is out of the handlers control, is it just lack of exposure or is there are real genetic component for a dog to problem solve independently, thermo-regulate and stay focused and calm in unpredictable environments.
this was the same area i took the SAR team/s, the dogs here are not going for a leisurely off leash stroll in the woods they are working;

This was never fun to slog through!

Were the sar people you took out there disaster/debris sar or wilderness/ air scent rescue? I much prefered any call out besides that freaking swamp!

the event occurred when the wild dogs were training their pups to kill, these are native species unintentionally crossed with fighting breeds/catch dogs, they have no natural fear of humans and they were howling in the distance - i told the team they are calling their mates in and they will be checking us out, they thought i was joking until more dogs started howling closer and tracking our direction. the handlers fell apart more then the dogs at this point, that no GPS signal available or cell phone coverage proved too much lol.

I read this and just wondered at this! Does opening the pool gate to take a swim after a vigorous game of jolly ball fetch, or boomerang throwing count? I try to keep him out and he just won't have it!
