Are the dogs well-bred? Yes, I think anyone would agree they are, looking at the pedigrees. But over $20K for an 8 month old pup? The dog could bloat and torsion, or have an intussusception, and die the day after my check cleared...
Seems insane to me.

I think the unfortunate part right now is that dogs are getting too expensive for even the “informed.” Puppies are $2000+, 6 month old puppies are $3000. Females with a BH are $5000. It’s pricing out a lot of people. There are a lot of good homes that could take dogs pretty far in training and trialing which aren’t able to afford those kinds of prices or are willing to take a $2000+ risk on a puppy. Older dogs are out of the question for most people when you see the prices people are asking for them…and that’s if you can find them. Not worth it for a breeder to even bother holding a dog back with how much they’re getting for puppies. Why hold a dog back for 6-12 months and risk bad health or lack of drive for an extra $2000 over puppy price?

I agree.. There does seem to be a shortage of young adults available at a reasonable price right now. I have been looking for a 10-24 month old untitled male... I have never had as hard of a time as I am now.
I found a 11 month old male that a well known kennel had for sale. The male was fairly green. Only had some bite work done and very minimal OB and they are asking $15,000😮😮.

I think the rise of the puppy cost over a few years ago is the fact shipping from europe was 300 and now is 1000. So when imported puppies or litters started asking 2500.00 instead of 1500 a lot of USA breeders matched their puppy prices even though they were bred and whelped in usa.

That's certainly a part, Europe sending their rejects here. But its greed top to bottom & side to side, its not just Europe. They will send their dogs to anyone who plops the money down, they care less about the dog or the breed despite the rhetoric, its the buck. Many American breeder programs not to be out done, are selling dogs to anyone full rights for more bucks so they can starting mating dogs for side money.
They are not breeders they are maters, ask them a question and they fall apart and get mad. The market is about over saturated. You will see these prices drop real fast here shortly, no more then 3 months by my estimate.
Of course, the dogs will ultimately pay the price. bubba is 100% on point major shortage of good people (buyers) left in the market at the moment.

I recently posted on the WGWL thread about a 14 month old male with all 62 immediate ancestors titled , and in each of the 5 generations there are multiple BSP, WUSV, and LGA psrticipants and he is going for under 2k. Here he is. He is currently 82 lbs.
