Why is Janis the ALT When exhibitors # 10 and 11 both had a higher total score? Also what does the a next to some of the protection scores indicate? Can't be less than pronouced since some team members have it.

Good questions....
WUSV rules state that to qualify, each dog must earn at least an 80 in A, B, C phases of the national or qualifying trial.
"A" signifies pronounced.

Actually I believe it is only Phase C that the 80 point rule is in place for. Same as you need an 80 in protection for IPO1 in order to move on to an IPO2 even though a 70 is passing. It used to take an 80 in phase C to even pass and the rules were relaxed for the showline dogs so that they could get their titles and breed survey with a 70 pt protection routine.

I find it curious that none of the female handlers got an "A" with their protection scores.

They all received a pronounced (a) rating. (except for those that were DQ'd). It may not list it on the score sheets but you CANNOT represent your country at the WUSV championships without your dog being pronounced in protection. One of the unspoken rules is that if your dog has ever received anything other than a pronounced in protection, he/she will never be chosen for a world team. That's one of the reasons you hand in your scorebooks before the event ever starts.

There are a few things above that are not actually correct.
1. In any trial the dog must score 70 points to pass protection AND move on to the next higher level. The 80 pt requirement is only required for a Koer
2. The requirement for WUSV Qualifier to compete at WUSV we received from Günther Diegel in a requested email clarification.
A. Handler must score 250 or higher
B. 80 pts or more in A,B, and C
C. VH or better in TSB (it was a surprise to me to but that is what they said)
Hope this clears up some things

Huh, that is news about the VH. Thanks for clearing that up Frank. Guess that's what happens when I get to slacking on reading the rule book.
Would USCA allow a VH dog to represent the US at the worlds?
by Unknown on 12 June 2014 - 18:06
Yeah it was news to me too...LOL
USCA does not have any specific rules prohibiting a dog with VH making the WUSV team.
However I really doubt that a dog that gets a VH scores high enough to make the team.
The competition with both orgs sending 10 teams to qual trial is too high level.

Years ago (20?) it was made quite clear by several different individuals that a dog who ever had a VH in his scorebook (even as a SchHI) would not make a team. It was mentioned several times, "better to flunk with "a" then pass with "vh". Is the selection process now strictly a numbers determination? Years ago numbers got you to the point of being considered but you still had to be picked to go.
I suppose a numbers only determination is a fairer way to go and let the dogs work it out themselves.
