I have ISO (the long number) chips in all of my dogs, and just chipped my current litter today. Yet even though ISO they are from two different companies, Datamars and HomeAgain. Well, found out that HomeAgain charges a fee to register the chip.

Is there something like a central database where I could register all/multiple dogs at once, preferable for free?

I do not know of a "free" microchip database. But I use PETLINK... they are fairly inexpensive and will register any brand of microchip. I have a couple pets registered with them.

Thank you Jyl, I will look into it. HomeAgain charges $17.99 per year, which I found out after the fact.

Home again annual charge is only if you opt for the primo pack.....like if you loose your dog while on vacation in a location far from home, you notify home again, they will contact all vet clinics and dog pounds within a radius of where you lost your dog. It's not anything the owner would not do themselves, but home again markets the service as tho it's real special. Otherwise, there is not an annual fee after initial registry. Why not use akc lost and found? They do cooperate with home again. It's simple to reg the chip at the same time the dog is reg.

Well Joan, I did not even think of the AKC lost and found option. Will check if they register chips not bought from them. Thanks for the reminder.

I had ordered the HomeAgain ISO chips from Revival as it was much cheaper than the ones I had previously gotten directly from Datamars when they were the only ISO chip supplier in the US few years ago. On the registration sheet from HomeAgain that came with the chips it states clearly that it is a yearly fee. No word of different offering simple vs prime or so. Also states that annual membership fee can be subject to change. Revival did send a different registration option pamplet in the packet (cudos to them).

Want to consider all options; trying to keep them all together in one database if I spend a couple hundred dollars on registration.

AKC does register chips other than their own.  I have used their service since it started like it better than Home Again. who want a yearly fee or so it seems as they still send me renewal notices.  AKC one time fee for all chips.

I guess home again has changed, once again, since I quit using them. I used the mini-microchips this time....super easy to insert, inexpensive and they do come in the international. Akc will register any chip...they don't ask for the manufacturer, only insert the number when registering with them.

I had a fit when home again sent me a bill for renewal a few years ago. I called them and they explained it was for the ptrimo package. I quit using them anyway.

Yeah, seems its all about money money and more money..... I dont plan to get one of my dogs lost every year....LOL Its just for the "in-case" things...like accidents, house fires....bolting after wild life, stolen dog, or lost puppy on shipping.

I like them for proof of identification.
