How sad....
sad too, that some don't acknowledge dogs having similar feelings as us...after all
It's just a dog....

Oh my gosh, I could barely watch it...crying my eyes out... So terribly sad. They sure do have feelings and mourn the loss of a companion and it is not only dogs. My friend had two cats, Jack and Jill. They were mother and son (adopted), raised together. They loved the outdoors and although they were predominately indoor cats they were let out daily to enjoy the fresh air. About a month ago Jack was killed by the neighbor's Pitbull. My friend buried her cat in her backyard. Every day since then momma cat will go out and lie down on the grave. It breaks my heart....

How sad.
A few years ago I had to put my showline male, AIko, to sleep. Velcro my cat LOVED AIko dearly. Where ever AIko layed Velcro would be right there too. Aiko usually layed on a rug in front of the couch. The last place Velcro say his buddy was on that rug. So that is where he layed for 2 days....just waiting for his buddy to come back. He even lifted up the rug and looked under it.... it was so heartbreaking...

Research on dog emotions and cognitions aside. I remember Ronin used to try challenging Loki more than a few times. We always had to keep an eye on him. Loki being the benevolent dictator would tolerate it then gently but firmly put Ronin in his place. Ronin did not like Loki but toward the end of Loki's DM, Ronin would let him eat first and would bring Loki his ball if it rolled away. Ronin would sleep curled up next to Loki and would alert us if Loki had to go outside. He would prop up Loki as Loki walked around the backyard with little Isis on the other side. When we made the decision to euthanize Loki and took Loki to our vet an hour away. Neighbors said that they heard the most heartbreaking howling at 1pm, the same time Loki was pronounced dead. My one neighbor said it made her want to cry, it sounded like Ronin's heart was breaking, Isis joined in. To this day, Ronin will NOT let Isis leave the house without him accompanying her and the same holds true for Isis. I won't go into the destruction, the one time Ronin was destructive, when I took Isis to the vet without him. Holy crow he was a wreck and she was too. That was 5 years ago and they still are inseperable.

These stories are so touching. Our animals know and feel so much more than most people realize.

How very sad, & so moving. When my step daughters blue Siamese cat Caruso died, our Wolf was so attached to him that he just gave up, & died a few days later. I sometimes think that animals care more deeply & completely than we do..... jackie harris
