What can I expect as some reasonable diagnosis tomorrow?  If I look at the x-rays, what do I look for on these diagnosis?  I just want to go into the vet informed instead of only thinking about the worst case scenarios.   I have spoken by PM with a few people over the last month, so I have some ideas, but I am praying that we are all wrong.

Background
4 year old GSD
Always been on the thin side
Fixed in November.  Weight was gained; weight is now ideal, not too thin and not over weight.
Hip x-ray 2 years ago looked fine by the vet (I did not know about getting OFC certification then)

Issue
In January, dog went for about a 5 hour run/hike/play.  Dog came back favoring right hip; nothing major and it might not have been noticed by someone who is not observant.  At the time, I was doing daily cleansing of a wound that involved moving the right rear leg.  The dog would react, but not cry out in pain if I rotated the hip outwards; lifted the leg outwards instead of front/back.

I let the dog rest for a couple of weeks with minimal extreme activity.   Dog went for about a 3 hour run/hike/play and again came home favoring right hip again.

Since then, if the dog does any activity that involves running (for example, playing fetch) for more than 10 – 15 minutes, by the evening time, the dog is favoring the right hip again.

I started about 2 weeks ago giving the dog an anti-inflammatory when I noticed the favoring in the evenings.  I still limited the activities, but I did not cut them out completely.

Last night, the dog started crying in obvious pain when it got up to change positions after laying down on the right side.   After this, the dog was stiff and in obvious pain when walking.  I gave some anti-inflammatory and we went to bed.  Dog is fine this morning; running and playing.  At this point, I scheduled some x-rays at the vet for tomorrow.

There are no other symptoms.  The dog is just as active as ever.  The favoring of the right hip only occurs in the evening time (except for the 2 times they came back from their run).  Within 30 minutes of taking the anti-inflammatory, the dog is walking like nothing happened.

To my knowledge, there has never been any damage to the hips.  It is possible that during the 1st run, the dog might have been kicked by a cow; I do not know.  I could not see any obvious damage to the hip, like mud or blood.
  I am 99% sure it is the hip, as I can move all of the other joints in the leg with no reaction from the dog.  It is only if I move the leg at the hip joint outwards that I get a reaction.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you in advance for any info.  Please do not take it personally if I do not respond to anything other than black and white facts.  Right now, thinking in black and white is all that is keeping me from crying and being terrified of the worst case scenario.
Admin, please correct the section this is in.  It should go in Main, not conformation.
If you are in AZ or Southern Cali if xrays are clear as for a valley fever blood test
I am in Texas.  We did have some issues with ticks over the winter.  Very mild and Rose is on Advantix.  Last round of vaccines were in June.
(thank you for reminding me to look at these things too.)
Fawn, not to worry too much, she might have some mile arthritis setting in and just could have overdone the first time and now is agrevated by that.  (sorry sp??).  However say that is the case I do have a recommendation for you instead of what the vet would want to put her on if it is arthritis.  Called VetroniX for arthritis,  I am giving it to my 14.3 year old girl daily but started her out two times per day and now only once per day.  If she does tweek herself which she does do the same line has a pain med that I give her for 3 days instead of the arthritis stuff;  then back to the arthritis stuff after 3 says on pain med.  Neither of these products will have ill affect on the liver and kidneys as they are herbal, but really work.  Good luck   Nan
Thank you Nans.  Is arthritis something that the vet will be able to see in x-rays or runs tests for?  I like this vet, but I have not used her enough to be 100% of everything she tells me.
Arthritis usually shows on Xrays as changes to the shape/surface of bones,
so your vet probably will be able to tell you if signs are present.
Are you sure it isnt the knee?
The dog gave no reaction when I bent the knee.  The only time she reacted was when I moved the hip joint.
