long story short I have a 3 year old czechoslovakian shepherd that i have owned since he was a baby, the last 2 years he had his own room/studio that had access to the back yard so he could be at our inside temp, we now moved to a different house where he is mostly an outside dog. Outside it gets to as low as 35 degrees at night will he be ok outside or should i bring him in at nght?

35 degrees is fine...mine are outside at 35, the only time they prefer to stay in is when it hits below 25-28 at night. Rain and snow is also a factor...but on a clear night at 35 degrees it is no big deal...right now we have temp. of 28-40 at night and so far only 1 girl stays inside and even she is ready to go at 4 am when heater kicks on to warm up the house for the morning...if i leave heater off she will stay inside till 6am w/o a complaint...so, i say it's no big deal if a dog is used to 35...he will do just fine.

he can handle it but he might just feel more happy to be inside with you at night

if you have the dog for any type of proteciton and peace of mind it is better to let him inside.
he can only guard the lawnmower if he's out side.

Your dog is used to inside temperatures for almost 3 years now.
If you really want him to stay outside now he at least will need a good doghouse.

Your dog will not mind the temp 40 minus if he has dry place to hide. What he will mind in a tortuous way is that he was inside with you before and now as far as he is concerned you rejected him away from you.

Great point Prager! My big boy prefers being outside. Loves the cold. Just make sure he has a house of some kind to get out of wet/windy weather. Take Care

Hans, you are completely correct. Dogs are pack animals, and shepherd bond closly to their hunans.......kicking him out to live alone after being part of the pack for so many years...that's just cruel.

He wont understand why he's being kicked out of the pack. Being without a pack can cause much emotional stress.

We have a shelter dog, she was dumped becase she would dig under the fence and run off. Come to find out, she was raised inside a home and when the baby came, she was no longer allowed in the hosue. She took it very hard, her health was affected, and so was her mind. We adopted her, she's the perfect house dog......loving, clean and easy to get along with, but kennel her and she's a mess. She gets digestion issues, causes trouble, and depressed.

Is there any possible way to add a doggy door to the place where you're living now?

Molotovman: ...the last 2 years he had his own room/studio that had access to the back yard...

Maybe I missed something, but this description sounds like an indoor kennel, not like a dog living with the family.
