The ball is not as round as I would Like.  The bottom of the ball has a squared point.  Also perhaps the ball is not in the socket as much as is perfect.  (picky  picky)  Nice squeeky clean hips.  I prefer xraying at about 1 year for a prelim.  This xray at 6 months looks OK.  But will it hold up?  Probably yes.    Alice

yes there are some flat spots and for that reason  i would rate them as OFA fair, i will say they are nice and tight in the joint and only time will tell if they stay this nice. i prefer to wait out till the pup is a year, to get a better picture of what the hips are like  , i think 6 months is just too soon in my opinon .

Tight?? Not by a longshot! The sockets are shallow, especially on the right side of the radiograph. Less than 50% of the ball is in the socket.
On the left side of the radiograph, the hip is acutally partly out of the socket.

My guess would be fair to mildly dysplastic. Mind, that could well change, as the dog gets older, the bones reach their adult size, and the ligaments tighten up.

THIS is what i'd call "nice and tight"!

Do you think as he gets older they will tighten up?

Anything is possible, Consus. I know of a dog that x-rayed as moderately dysplastic as a youngster, then fair at 2 years. For some reason, they redid his hips at 5 years (might have been due to an accident?) and they were then upgraded to GOOD!  Omg Smile

Fair at this age;  hopefully they will tighten up;  swim him/her if you can, soft ground workouts like sand or dirt, no jumping if you want them to look better a 2 years old.  Good luck  Nan

I just did 2 young males and they both failed with mild HD, and they looked just like these xrays, the L hip isn't well-seated at all, jmo
