My friend's elderly stepmom is in the hospital with countless broken bones, resulting from a car accident, a few days ago or so. Her immediate family put their injured mom's dog, an austrailian shepherd, or a border collie, I'm not sure at this moment exactly-- but it is a purebred dog, up in a boarding kennel. Might even have been a pet shop dog. Not sure.

It seems none of her adult children are dog people or are health prohibited to care for dogs. Not only that, this dog supposedly has some issues. I believe my friend said, "This dog doesn't like any body, except maybe us."

I think the dog's behavior issues stem more from the owner type, and the right person could help this dog to end up being a different kind of dog.  My 2cents. Dog might have a kidney health issue too.

My friend can't take this kind of dog, theirs is a very social house and she already has her hands full with a pack of three dogs. My friend is thinking about finding a better spot for this dog, as it is unclear the duration in the case of long term care for the injured.

I know this is a tough situation!

This poor woman has broken pelvis, ribs, sternum, I think, and is 80+ years old. I can't imagine. Well, I can, painful is what I get. Say a prayer for her if one is inclined.   Thanks for advice or suggestions where to look. This is Litchfield Cty, CT area.

Why don't you take the dog? You have a lot of time, no tiny kids, only one dog, right?

I can't take a non-kid friendly dog. I'm not a professional.

I would contact ASCA (parent club for aussies) and see if there is someone who can help you. I raised aussies several years back and some of the poorer quality dogs seem to have aggression issues. Ive been badly bit by a couple. It could be that the dog just needs something to do (like most all working dogs) and someone may be able to test the dog and find a place for the dog to go.

If they are looking for a better boarding facility and someone with aussie/border experience, I would check with Canine Sports Center in Goshen, beautiful facility, training as well as boarding, live on the premises, owner has alot of aussie/other dog experience

triodegirl, as it turns out the dog is a Miniature Australian Shepherd bought from a breeder in Canada. So I doubt this was a cheap transaction. My friends just left on their Harleys, having come from the Hospital.

It seems truth is stranger than fiction because the patient's daughter and partner were to receive a 8 wk GSD puppy for guidedog fostering on the same day as the accident. So, instead of the pup, they have decided on taking care of the mom's dog.

This is a picture of the type, not AKC recognized I think, from Google:

Jakota and Bhaugh, I gave my friend your suggestions and she was appreciative, as it helps her to be prepared should the dog's situation change.

Thanks all who replied, all views have value.

I'm glad they decided to help mom's dog..the mini's are not high maintenance and very cute:)  Wonder if she got it from Sidekick , they are on the maine/canadian border and have really nice mini's..

Hope she is better soon
