Are there quantitative and non-quantitative results for vaginal culture?
For instance, Antech has aerobic vaginal culture test M020. The vet says the result is not quantitative and is inclusive of mycoplasma, which is aerobic I suppose.
The reason I ask is that the stud owner wants to see a negative result on mycoplasma. I have been treating my bitch with doxycycline, 10 mg/kg/day.
At the end of the 21th day of treatment, I plan to have a vaginal culture done.
She will be isolated for the duration against re-infection. And one other dog in the household is also treated with doxycycline.
Does the very last mycoplasma bacterium have to be killed for a negative result? Is there a threshold population lower than which is considered negative? How does culture and sensitivity test actually work?
This is a technical question; if you know the answer please help.

you will need to do a mycoplasma test not a vaginal culture test , you can do both test with a guarded swab. yes the mycoplasma must be neg, as i require the same. there is a normal flora of Mycoplsama, but really cant tell a flora from a real problem , so most bereeder just ask for it to be totally clear. i use baytil and i will tell you to restest for mycoplasma you need to wait out at least 3 weeks after the dog is done with the meds to retest as this drug stay in the system for awhile.
what usually happens is the flora will bulid back up over time. i have tested one of my girls a few times and always retest with it totally clear after the 3 weeks are up. if you retest and it still there after a few trys you may have a real problem.

The test is for aerobic and mycoplasma.
Would a culture show mycoplasma positive if the population of mycoplasma is extremely low?
After 21 days of treatment with doxycycline, the mycoplasma population will be very low, but would it be zero or does it have to be zero to get a negative result?
