Sorry to tell you this but they do not look good

by dbeden01 on 24 June 2012 - 01:06

Unfortunately, these hips show signs of dysplasia on both sides. Although the positioning of the films is not perfect (which underestimates the hip coverage on the left) and are too far turned in, both sides show ≤ 40% coverage of the hip ball with flattening of both heads. Penn-Hip evaluation would give you a more accurate estimate of the degree of laxity. Any history of lameness?

SRSK9,

I would have to say at this time..

Mild to Moderate Hip dysplasia.

This dog is overweight for nine months of age as the average weight of a nine month old
German Shepherd Dog is approximately 69.4 pounds ....

Slim him down with a raw diet..(http://dogaware.com/diet/homemade.html#sample)  he needs to weigh precisely 14 pounds less than his current weight.

Also have him do road work like jogging next to a bike for at least 3 miles a week.
While also adding to his diet 1000 mgs of Ester-C vitamin daily for
approx. 15 months, then  have him ofa'd, that would be 2 years old
when they can certify him.

He still has a very good chance of a Fair/Good rating from the vets at ofa,
if you follow this protocol,
     Good luck

I would definately be careful about road working a nine month old puppy. I do not care for road working until the growth plates are closed but perhaps that is just me. However I do agree that keeping slim and muscular is key.
