My female GSD had a litter early this morning...She had like 3 puppies then as I thought she was having another puppy...A sack came out and she began to eat it...
It wasn't a puppy...It seemed to be filled with a blackish liquid...
Has anyone had this happen to them? Does anyone know what it was?
By the way...after this...She ended up having another 4 puppies...All healthy...

Sounds like it was the placenta. You probably just didn't see her eat the ther ones. A placenta comes out shortly after each puppy, sometimes it is within a few minutes sometimes it can be 30 min.

Like what aceofspades said, probably a placenta, probably born before the puppy. I've seen it before, and contrary to what some say,
I let mine eat all of the placentas. Of course I count them, but don't interfere with mother nature.

Edited: County?? Geeze, fingers have a mind of their own today.

Weird crappy stuff happens when dogs have pups, some things are not for the faint of heart,
be lucky it was something your bitch took care of, that has happened to me, and as long as it was not a puppy in need, don't ask questions, mom did great!
Good luck with your litter, give her plenty of water,
sit back and tie some ribbons on those pups!

Q Man and I are good friends..he has birthed more dogs than I have by a huge amount. HE is very experienced ..
That is why I found humour in his post...
I guess, like me, his bitches are so good at birthing and he just happened to see that bubble, and it puzzled him...I am sure many other after birth expulsions came in various shapes and forms over thre years but you know when we turn our back or go inside , we come out and our birthing boxes are clean as whistles...so no telling what they looked like over the years..
Made for a good discussion on AFTERBIRTH, anyway.
BOB: Do you administer OXY??
