Hi i just recently purchased a female gsd... When I first got her I noticed she drinks A LOT!!!! I thought she was just thirsty from the drive so I let her drink and drink and finally I cut her off and she was looking for more.... I feed her like the rest of my girls and they dont overly drink at all.. My 2 yr old I take on a 2-3 hr walk daily and she doesnt even drink near the water this 9 month old drinks. It has been raining the past 3 days here and she drinks out of every single water puddle her belly looks like she could pop some babies within hours because she drinks so much water. I am not doing anything different with her that I am with the other girls so I dont know whats going on with her.... I am going to make a vet appt for tomorrow for her I just wanted to know if anybody else has experienced this before.

She may have and OCD issue but most dogs that drink obsessively have a medical problem such as diabetes, kidney issues and so forth.
It will be very interesting to hear what the vet says. I expect they will want to do a blood panel and (perhaps) a urine test in addition to feeling her organs. They may want to do an Xray.
Good Luck!

Could be a problem with the adrenal glands. A scan can see if they are enlarged. Dr Mott, So Pasadena, CA does the scan and then does an extraction of blood and then injects something into the vein and waits for an hour. Then more blood is extracted.
She is doing this for a dog who also cannot stop drinking water. The blood is being sent to TN, as TN is the only place where a panel checking the adrenal glands can be done.
I read where Cushings Disease can be found when there is real stress. The dog above was under terrible stress due to not being able to see her human after severe surgery. She was in such a state that she was trying to die by not eating any more. Thank goodiness the human was allowed to see the dog. Vet later told human the following Mon that when he left on Fri, he was not sure dog would live that night.
That !@#$% vet!!!! The human had to go out and buy $50 of cooked turkey w/o spices and feed the dog tiny bits to get the dog to eat and save her life. The report is not yet back from TN, but maybe this stress caused the adrenal gland problem if that is what it is. This vet is really evil!! It was written on the form that the dog had separation problems and this guy is suppose to have a GSD and yet the idiot was going to just let the dog die and not let her see her human which did in fact save the dog's life. Yes, when the report is back, this vet is going to be written up!!!
So, have the adrenal glands checked and then have your vet call the above vet or call yourself or check with TN source, whose name I do not know.
Best wishes!!!
