El Paso, TX - Last week, a vicious criminal set their sights on Vega, a Presa Canario, who belonged to  Enrique Miranda, a professional dog trainer.

That person snatched Vega from her own yard on November 30 while Vega's owner was away for a short period of time.

Exactly how Vega was taken remains somewhat of a mystery, especially in light of the dog's training which would make a stranger's approach difficult.

Miranda wonders if she was drugged, or if possibly, the person who stole her was someone familiar to her.

Miranda turned to Craigslist after Vega's disappearance - hoping that someone would recognize his dog and return her.

But a safe return was not to be.

Whoever it was tortured the dog - and then threw her back into her own yard just 24 hours after she was initially taken.

The abuse that Vega suffered while she was away was brutal - tragically, it was not survivable.

In the short time that she was away, someone beat her, stabbed her and possibly shot her in the head.

According to KFOXTV, , Vega, though horribly injured, held on long enough to see her guardian one last time - summoning enough strength to stand and greet the man when he approached.

But the severity of her injuries made survival impossible. Tragically, within two short hours of Miranda's arrival, Vega was gone.

Once again, Miranda is turning to Craigslist - hoping that someone can shed some light on Vega's brutal killing.

Enrique Miranda places Vega's value at an incredible $40,000 - in part because of the rarity of her breed, in addition to the specialized, extensive training that she had.

But there is no value that can be placed upon the loss of a beloved companion - and there is nothing that can erase the brutal manner in which she was killed.

Today, Vega remains at Miranda's home...buried in his yard.

He will be installing a security system to prevent any of his other dogs from a similar fate.

Rest in Peace Vega.

This is absolutely sickening and terrifying.  If they can do this to a Presa they can do this to any GSD.  And the last act of the dog, beaten shot and stabbed, to find the heart to stand to greet her owner...my God..

The trainer probably ticked off the cartels.

Emoore, you obviously know the area. Aztecas, perhaps.
