I'm guessing the people that modify their dogs are probably full of medical procedures themselves, plastic people!
I have owned many GSD and all have had their own personality. My current bitch of 10mths has an ear that i believe will never stand and the other is often down as well unless alerted & it certainly doesn't worry me if it doesn't stand. This is her and part of her personality, I have more people in public approach her and not be "worried from the look" than any other GSD with straight ears. She has a beautiful nature and her ears make her who she is. She is a pedigree dog with full papers and there would be no way i would return her because of her ears. She is apart of my family.
My Golden Retriever is also full pedigree and he certainly isn't the run of the mill retriever but is absolutely beautiful and part of the family.

Well, that's great that you love your floppy-earred shepherd. I had one growing up, too, it was free to a good home, which we were. Still, when I think about buying a German Shepherd with papers, I certainly want both ears standing up, it is an aesthetic kind of thing, true, and a deal breaker, too.
Now, once I got a pup and bonded with it, I am the type of dog person that would keep the floppy-earred dog, because he would be a pet, but I would want some compensation for not getting what was sold to me.

I didn't go to the pound a get a mixed breed dog. I bought a german shepherd hence you expect a certain "look" to it. I would love the pup no matter what, but I should would try everything possible to get that german shepherd "look".

I once fostered a very large 10 month old german shepherd puppy, with ears that looked like they had no chance of standing. We immediately had them feathered, (feathers, cotton and surgical glue,) and gave him more raw beef back ribs than he knew what to do with, lots of jaw excercise. About two months later, he had beautiful standing ears, and went to a good home. Great that you love him, no matter what.

Right off ther bat Germy goes after people who have their dogs cropped as being plactic people. What a crock and crapy way to justify your dogs short coming with ears that won't stand. If you had any cooth about you then you might have asked someone who has had to deal with ears how they got them to stand properly. There are several ways to do so without causeing the dog any pain or agrivation but rather then ask you dump on others. Take your wallet out and do whats right for your dog. All my dogs have cropped ears and I love then all. I also have one who has natural ears that became a champion despite looking like the flying nun so I speak from experience with both. Steve

benzi, Please feel free to email me, I have an 8 month old and have tried everything, they stand for a week at a time and then just flop. last few days one stands when she is rested.
She is only a companion but it would be good for her owner if they would stand up.
