hi,my female has just had a false pregnancy,(my first)she was slip-mated twice (stud-owner said not to worry, that it was the dogs"style",that he never tied)day 12 and day 13(as per test results).i was quite sceptical about the mating and was genuinely suprised to see her go through the whole actions of a pregnant bitch, loss of appetite, abdominal swelling, mammary development,etc...!around day 59 she started to nest, refused food and .....no pups!she's over it now(and so am i..sometimes!)......so my question is this-taking that she is a regular 6mth bitch, can i expect her to come in heat 6 mths from her previous heat or 6mths from her pregnancy due date.any experience of this would be appreciated.THANKS!

Bitches can definitely get pregnant from a slip tie--but usually it works better if you "help" and keep the dogs together for a few minutes.

A false pregnancy is not unusual because the females go through much the same hormonal cycle whether or not they are pregnant. She should stay on her regular cycle and come in heat on her normal schedule. Usually this will remain the same unless the female is in really poor condition following a pregnancy.

Hi, she can get pregnant with an outside tie, must hold him inside for at least 5 mins..I had this happen a few times, when the female is ready, but hasn't opened enough to allow lock/tie.Many times they do get pregnant, but absorb the puppies or they don't fully develop, maybe because of bacteria in uterus...so do cervical culture next time on her first day and Progesterone starting on day 6th after bleeding..many times when females miss is when they are ready before the 10th day or after the 20th day, because " the experts" believe females come in heat at the same time or are ready once they stop bleeding, or when they flag...If you go by any of these, more than likely you will miss again...do Progesterone...Good luck

hi,thanks for the replies lads,i dont doubt she could have perhaps conceived from a 5 minute mating but,the stud dog just ejaculated and then withdrew, before he even started to swell....the first mating was...no exaggeration...about 10 seconds.the second was a little better...about 20!!!.i did suggest to the owner at the 2nd mating that perhaps we should hold the two together so that they might tie,but he said there was no need,it was the dogs style, and that he had known several litters conceived from no-tie matings.the bitch was prog tested, day 10 and then day 12(which it said was THE day)...plus my own male dog was bananas on day 12 and he's never too far wrong!last bitch i mated cost me £300 in prog tests(testing from day 8-20) and on day 21 he went beserk when he scented her...i then went and mated her with my chosen dog...12 pups!(needless to say HE tied).guess i'll just have to kiss good-bye to my money and look for a different stud dog, next time!
