JON ERIC

by JON ERIC on 02 March 2011 - 00:03

I realize I might get slammed on this Post,But I have survived alot of Hard Kicks in my life so here goes.
I continue to see ads on this site and others which attempt to convey the message that if one even thinks of inquiring to to the advertisement viewed, than he,or she need Not call if they areNot prepared to close the Deal,so to speak.
Well now.First, being a person who had a Paternal Grandfather who would travel the country by train every six months, attending sales, and then travel the Mid Atlantic in search of Buyers for those Trophy  Work Horses,Morgans, etc.,never to complain about a Non Productive Trip to here or there,I often wonder what would these new found Dog Dealers would have me,or someone else do when we have the urge to simply Inquire about an ad that THEY PLACE on there OWN VOLITION.
First, any cautious Buyer would like to view, and have the time to Study the Pedigree. If this is not supplied with the Ad,then Obviously,I am going to ask to see it.
Second, with dogs that based overseas, and with value of the Almighty Dollar being at its Lowest in Decades,Shipping Charges often Vary, and Change overnight, due to Currency Fluctuations.
Third,I or any other Buyer knows Nothing about the Seller in most cases. So,everything is a Huge Gamble in the grand scheme of things.
Then there is the Issue of Health, and Certification, and Documentation.
As I see it,in my mind I am serious when on the handful of times that I have inquired on a particular dog.
I am quite sure others feel the same way.
I would venture to say that any of these sellers would be just as Cautious,if they were standing on the other  side of the Fence.

In addition to the above comments,i would add that perhaps if the Price, and Full Registered Name is Included in the Original ad,then alot of aggravation could be Spared the Seller.
The less information included, results in that many more emails or calls.

I agree I am more than willing to spend time on the phone or in an e-mail to tell people about the dogs I breed, answer any questions, or just simply listen to what they are looking for.  Questions are questions and in my opinion a smart buyer has a lot of them.

Maybe it is that a lot of people don't know enough about the dogs that they are breeding to be abel to talk about them in detail, this may be why people don't like window shoppers.

If I ever put an ad on here it will read "All tire kickers and inquiries welcome". I agree with you 1000%.

I'm only interested in "TIRE BITERS" - LOL just kidding, good point.

I always laugh at the "SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY" ads. Yeah the check is in the mail because you posted one lousy photo and say the dog/puppy can do everything perfectly.

I agree. I have spent many many hours on the phone with people who are simply tirekickers....but they just may be buyers some day and a little education makes a better owner for whatever dog they end up with, so I don't mind a bit.

Jon, a serious buyer will include their name, phone # and revel ant info. Your granddad showed he was serious by showing up, not an e-mail.

I do think there is a bit of culture difference here and I have come to view "serious" from the European side as "not cheap" and "don't bother if you are looking for cheap. This dog ain't". I think we just view it different in the U.S.

It does not bother me, but I do think just putting the price out there (or at least the starting point) would eliminate the tire kickers.

As for me, I don't buy dogs from pics or ads. If it gets to the point that I am really interested in the dog, I go see it.

I complely agree. I saw a ad on craigslist recently for a horse for sale. It had info on the horse and then at the bottom of the ad it said "Serious Inquiries only! That means dont think you are going to come out, take him for a ride and then dissapear, never to be heard from again.Im tired of people wasting my time!"  ...... I sent her a e-mail asking if a Xmas and birthday card now and then would be sufficient....Couldnt help myself

Why not consider all options;  If they don't want tire kickers then they need to post the price;  I think the serious/no tire kickers is rude to even print it.  Or maybe they are not really serious about selling the animal at all;  I think being considerate and kind to people, consider all the options and then make a decision.  I have inquired about several over in Europe and NEVER have gotten a response except one which had just sold 1 hour before.??  What a pisser.  So BE CONSIDERATE TO ALL.  Nan
