        After considering the concern over this posting, I have decided to erase it from the board. I have contacted the trainer and expressed my concerns, feelings and opinions about the incident. I also, assured her that I never made any mention of names that would link the posting to her..I did not erase the post immediately, due to wanting to give everyone involved a chance to view the posts for themselves ..I stand behind everything I have posted,  I   am erasing the post to keep any more drama to a minimum..

That depends on what happened.  I'm sure it's not morally corect for you to show the video on a public board, but maybe find someone whom you trust on this board and get their opinion.

From reading your posts I get the feeling that you are possibly submissive and nervy and not overly authoritative, even with Prince, so what you deem as cruel may not be, or may be borderline, or it may in fact be cruelty.

It may be okay but just not the way you would discipline your dog, or you may be correct in that it may have been way out of line and may warrant being reported to some authority.  I mean some people use shock collars to train their dogs and some people use clickers.  You may think a shock collar is inhumane whereas others may view it as perfectly acceptable.

Jeesh, I hope that second paragraph doesn't sound bad.  I don't mean is as an insult but as an observation of your posts.

Since no one has mentioned it.....that I have seen.  Have you considered finding a trainer who will work with you alone, leave Prince at home for awhile, maybe the trainer has another dog that you can use so that YOU can learn to be authoritative, how to command the dog and how to be the alpha of the pack with a dog that is already trained.  I know that there has been a lot of suggestion that Prince's nerviness may be coming from you.  Instead of trying to fix Prince you should consider working on the root, then working on Prince.  I bet that once you build your confidence with a dog that is easier to handle that you may have the confidence to be the Alpha in the relationship between you and Prince.

One thing that I am sure about however is that trying out all of these different trainers with him is probably not helping the problem at all.  I think you need to find a trainer and stick with them through the end.  You aren't giving Prince any time at all to show improvement before you move onto the next trainer because the current one isn't working.  Prince sounds like he is a dog who needs consistency and since he is nervy as it is, he is probably over the top stressed over seeing a new trainer every few weeks.

But I digress.  Find someone here that you can trust and let them view the video and offer an opinion of what they think.

This post isn't really about Prince but it's impossible to form an opinion without having seen what took place.  Being able to see the video would be helpful.

I want clients to get firm when their dogs take off and run up to strange dogs- this is for the safety of their pets! I don't allow dog I know will bite unmuzzled in the classes, so no one will really get hurt, but it's a valuable lesson for a dog to learn so they don't go out into the real world and do it.

I would say if the golden still wants to take off and run up to other dogs, then that puppy isn't ready for offleash training. Maybe you can describe what happened?

The BEST scenario, is to educate & give YOU the tools to train your dog properly.

As for the "Training Class".....I cannot speculate what occurred...so I choose to refrain form commenting.
1/2 the battle (in training & ownership) is the "desire & dedication" to learn.......you have clearly shown both....

I would suggest against posting videos...simply because, people can get carried away in their opinions.....and it has shown "previously"..that it can get (vile) easily........again...JMO.

You didn't say exactly what bothered you about the Golden.  I would be honest with the trainer, why not tell them you're not comfortable with the training rather than lie and say something came up.   I doubt that there's not one good trainer within 7 hours of you, but I may be wrong.  I will say you'll learn more from one private lesson with a great trainer than you will from reading a book or watching a video, because it's the "reading the dog" part that can't be given to you in a book.  Books are great, but more for learning theories and ideas than application.
