Looks alot like this dog: http://www.adoptapet.com/pet/7768049-manhattan-new-york-pit-bull-terrier-mix
So I'd say a Pitbull/Pointer mix.

Weimaraner and pit mix.. maybe more.. unusual coloring. Most dogs will naturally bark at intruders.. usually that is all you need. Good luck!

Pit Bull Terrier or Pit bull mixed with some thing. What i'm not sure from just photos. Lot of white, red nosed dogs here in florida, he's got some bicsuit markings. Not uncommon either. He's long and lanky, Could use a few more pounds of muscle not fat.
As for guard dog? Not a friggin clue without meeting the animal. But even Yorkies are good at barking up a fuss and alerting to strangers.
Only a professional dog trainer could evaluate this dog for protection training. But any dog us usually enough to make burglers go else where.

Echo what dragonfry said, above, but with an additional caveat: if by 'guard dog' you mean a dog that will bite an intruder, if you live in Canada, the US or any European country, PLEASE don't try and put that burden on this dog--he looks like he's a nice dog, and in any of the countries mentioned, his life is guaranteed forfeit if he bites somebody, whether they're breaking into your house or stabbing your grandmother, and he doesn't deserve that ending. The pit bull type dogs have so much negative press going against them, mostly because ignorant people do ignorant things with those dogs and the dogs aren't taught any better, that a biting pit-type dog probably won't be permitted to live, no matter how justified the bite might have proven.
If, by 'guard dog', you mean you want a dog that will alert you to anyone who enters your property or knocks on your door, that will bark at strangers and intimidate them away from your property with that bark, then there's a good chance that this dog will be quite capable of doing that, IF he feels your property is his to warn strangers away from--so don't just tie him outside and leave him there, and think he's going to automatically become 'protective' of your place.
He's got a kind look in his eye, and I hope he's found his forever home with you.

Thanks all of you for your feedback and suggestions. I have dewarmed this dog from internal and external parasites. This dog is now quiet happy and comfortable. He is also gaining weight, which is good sign.
I think previous owner of the dog mistreated him. Due which it looks lean and skinny

I was out jogging one night, and the neighbour was washing his car, and had his two Yorkies out with him. As I ran past, the male bit my ankle!
One of my university profs had a yappy Sheltie. His house backed onto a ravine. It was the ONLY one on the street that had not been broken into.
So, yeah, dogs are a deterrent, regardless of size.

could be Dogo argentino mix. google it....here is example of what i found...looks similar to him only younger and a lot skinnier version, but chest, eye set, ears somewhat similar..wish knew the size of your dog.

Doesn't look nearly big enough for Dogo. I was
going to suggest Staffordshire Terrier rather than
Pit.
