Speaking of the Rottie I just mentioned....and I mentioned it on another post as well. The Rottie owners are driving me crazy as well. When I was a little kid I went trick-or-treating at their house, our family was good friends with theirs. And years later, their son made a big scene towards my sister in front of people....at church of all places lol. (He didn't even attend there) Well, my dad told him not to treat my sister like that.....and because of something that silly..... Their family has been bitter towards us ever since and that was many, many years ago. A couple years ago these people got a Rottie who was out of control from the get go. I walked past his house one day, and one of the dogs I had then was slightly nervous (and young) with the way the Rottie was acting. So I asked him, can I walk back and forth just a couple of times so my dog can get use to your dog doing that. He said, well, yeah, just don't do it too much because my dogs get worked up. (He has like 6 dogs total). So I did it twice, and left.....Keep in mind he gave me permission.

Well, a few days later, that same Rottie jumps the fence.....because that small dog I mentioned earlier followed me to my road (I live on the same road the Rottie lives on). The Rottie attacks the little dog, it runs of screaming and limping. I kept going down the road, put my dogs up real quick, and went back to help the Rottie owner get his dog back. Then the owner came to my house multiple times the next couple of days telling me to no longer walk my dogs down the road. He said I need to be a gentlemen and walk my dogs the other way (which is the highway and there is no way I will walk on the highway with a 55 mph speed limit and that much traffic), and to stop using his yard to train my dogs....I didn't stop after again in front of his house because I never asked him if I could again..... Needless to say, I kept walking to the subdivision for my walks, every day as usual. I'm not hauling four dogs in (it was three then) a car (one who has severe anxiety on car rides) just to get their walks, and have to vacuum it for an hour each time they all go for a ride. For the past couple of years now he has been more hateful, and gets mad any time he sees me doing anything with my dogs even in my yard. He will even drive by our house at 2 mph...literally...and stare at the dogs the whole way if he doesn't see me. Like he's plotting something. Away from our road he's always flying though lol. He always gives me the stare down and so does his wife. Today though, I was walking past his house on the way back to my house from the walk. Well I had to stop for just a second....literally a second. The Rottie was going bizerk, and Little Dude (my youngest dog) tried to lunge which is very unusual for him. So I stopped, did a leash correction and verbal correction and went on. Well because I stopped, his wife walks out and gives me a look that could kill.

They're mad because their dogs are out of control, but they don't do anything to train them. They believe a verbal or leash correction is abusive which is why I think they called the law on me a couple of weeks ago. There was a cop car watching our house like a hawk not long after I got back from a walk one day. Maybe it was for something else, but he was just watching our house and I find that interesting. It's like my neighbor wants to catch me doing something he finds "wrong" like a correction just because he doesn't like me or my dogs.

This neighbor lives accross the street from my grandparents who they've known for like 40 years. My grandparents are quite old, but they are capable of doing most anything still. Well...the neighbor started cutting my grandparents grass around the mailboxes. He thought it looked bad and decided to do it.....even though it wasn't his mail box. My grandfather didn't like it because the lawn mower cuts very choppy and uneven so he asked the Rottie owner to stop cutting it. Ever since then the Rottie owner quit talking to him just because of that. THe scary thing about the Rottie though..... The Rottie acts the same way when he sees children....that he does when he attacked the dog I mentioned earlier.

It made it where I couldn't put that in one or even two posts. Oh well...

Sounds to me like you guys really have more thanyour fair share of numpty dog owners. Maybe there's jealousy there because youcan do things withyour dogs thatthey can't.
I realise the law in the US is a littel different to here inthe UK but whereas we have dog wardens (who are useless most of the time) I know you have animal control. for us though, if a dog shows any sign of what THEY describe as aggression (anything other than happy golucky in every smaginable scenario) thnt eh dog gets it's 7 permitted days then it is PTS. Many dogs do get rehomed though and i think that's what some of these dogs need - just careful, responsible owners who can and will train them.
Preaching to the converted here though!!

What I'm reading here are multiple problems...... some which are not even dog related. For those we know how some humans can be and for some of those they will never get taken care of/change.
For the dog problems; Cant go back to the first page but RV?Rich? Had the best approach. Animal Control are the 1st appropriate individuals but mind you, it depends on how much "authority" they are given. Animal Control over there might be governed different than over here. Animal Control over there might in essence be the police when over here they are not.
Go to their office and talk to them, talk to a officer. IF, and only IF he/she doesn't satisfy your interest speak with a supervisor. What is their "authority"? Maybe their hands are tied? For our area AC will only come out for a bite, injury but will not come out for a loose animal. Dog(s) barking are first a noise complaint handled by LE then situation dictates if AC responds.
As for the walking down the road? Open/public access. End of story. I'd ignore the verbal comments or tell them to pack sand. You're familiar with who they are.
As for the dogs following you 1/2 mile barking? Leash laws. First you need to know; State laws, County laws, City laws, Town laws and Neighborhood Association laws. And it just depends on how much effort you want to invest. But it falls back on how much authority AC has. And if they have little authority there then you have your LE agency; noise complaints, loose "appear to be aggressive" dogs, unknown if they have rabies dogs running loose, "appear" to be aggressive dogs "charging" you. And last: a paintball gun (AND MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT RESEMBLE A REAL GUN!) When you report that loose dogs appearing to be aggressive charged you and your dogs now the authorities know which dogs were loose. (As long as you hit them). Good luck and it pretty much depends on how much you will tolerate this? How much effort you are willing to spend? How much AC can/will do? Good luck!
Aagh, forgot to add. Check with AC and (unless you already know and are doing it, I didn't know when I moved to where I live now) but find out if dogs need to be registered/licensed. And I'm not talking of the tags you get from the vet. When I first got my last pup, they stopped making the kennels I used. I didn't want to have mix & match kennels so I was searching for "leftovers" in that brand. So, until I could find it I put her in the largest wire crate when next to the other dogs and their kennels to get to know them. Someone called AC on me to say I was being inhumane by putting the puppy in a crate. Now mind you were are talking of a 9 wk old pup in the largest wire crate made. Of course I wanted to know who the complanant was, but they can't tell you. I grabbed the paperwork, took a ride to AC and wanted to speak with the officer that signed the paperwork. I like to take care of things immediately and in person. I met with the officer and we spoke and he said their was no problem, my dogs looked excellent plenty of room, kennels were nice, clean etc. He said the paperwork was for me to show up and register the dogs and license them. I said I was unfamiliar with that so show me paperwork where I have to do that. He did. I took care of all I had to do. But in my previous County, (with my male of @ 7 at the time) I never had to do that. So check on that also.

GSDguy....subdivision next to you sounds like the one I live next to, its a loop with a slight extension to a dead end...every time i walk there is a mini dob., Chihuahua and rotty (mix?) always loose...you can hear them barking all over subdivision, all hours of the day...well i walk at 5 am...when i got to the end of the street, dogs came running and were circling, barking, etc...they never attacked but my youngest one already have other dogs issues if i were to walk away it would have just gotten worse, so I stayed in the middle of the street, one neighbor yelled "shut the f** up"...my dogs were sitting down and not even barking....i must have stood there 5-7 min before i guess owner came out and opened garage door and all loose dogs ran into it, at that time i turned and walked home...next day I decided to go for a walk at 3 am ...pretty much same thing happened...following day i brought mace but did not see dogs anywhere...i still see them running during day time, sometimes late into night like 11-12 am you can hear them barking, sometimes by our yard, small dogs would stop and bark, and bark while my dogs would just ignore it...but at least my walks are quiet now...i guess if they want their sleep they will have to keep their dogs in...so maybe morning walks...at crack of dawn would solve your issue??..maybe?...other than that I am so sorry but you can't fix stupid...

I walk my dog in a local park every day that is never used since it's basically one steep hill (great for my butt and to exercise Senta). It also has long low fence on one side that is great for practicing heeling.
Unfortunately, a fenced yard that backs onto the park has a Yorkie that barks hysterically and shrilly the entire time that I'm there. It's just awful. I know that the Yorkie's owner's neighbour has phoned and complained to the dog's owner at his work since I heard the owner yelling this at the dog. Last week, the dog's owner asked me not to use the park since it made his dog bark. I was completely stunned and said that he was looking at things completely wrong. My (quiet) dog wasn't the issue.

The other day I was walking my dogs and as I pass by a house a poodle mix designer dog comes charging behind me.
All I can say is thank God for "sit" and "leave it" otherwise the little ankle biter would have been a distant memory.
Took me completely by surprise. It was a new dog and it must have been laying down in the bushes.
But who stakes a dog to the front yard with full access to a public walkway!
