Czinca I fully agree with you. Czech Republic/Czechoslovakia was given as an example of EU country . I have just read out the reccomended cnn transcription regarded to the China/worldwide fur trading. Although I am not too strong on english way I would not say that dogs and cats are sloughtered or skinned alive here in the Czech Republic. Of course I am not familiar with black market and illegal practicals. However I am not overingenuous knowing that everything is possible anywhere. Well, read the only sentence below which is talking about Czechoslovakia. ....And we have as recently as within the past three months purchased cat fur out of China in Czechoslovakia.... It says that fur coming from China is purchased in Czechoslovakia, right...? Sincerely Peter Vajda Euro k-9 connection, Czech Republic

The people to blame are the people that sell these fine dogs to the highest bidder!! NO QUESTIONS ASKED. A GSD ENTHUSIAST? HELPING THIS BREED? NOT!!!

Try this one: http://www.hsus.org/press_and_publications/press_releases/undercover_investigations_Finds_Cats_in_Czech.html Look, bad stuff happens everywhere and it's our duty as dog lovers to try to prevent these things from happening in our own countries. Make no mistake about it, there is plenty of animal abuse happening here in the US and many of us are working hard to change that. You can't just say - oh, the US press is lying, cruelties like this could never happen here. Go and check it out for yourselves and then act as your conscience dictates. I myself will not be buying anything made in China or the Czech Republic until I am satified that the governments are doing all they can to put a stop to this and that the products containing domesticated animal parts are clearly labeled as such and not given warm and fuzzy names like "Asiatic racoon dog" or "wildcat" I don't wear fur regardless of where the animals are raised and killed. Frankly, I don't know why any human being needs to be told that skinning alive an animal is cruel, maybe a little skinning of their own body parts would give them a quicker education on how to humanely harvest pelts from fur bearing animals. Amen, Dawn! Money is the downfall of the GSD.

I had the pleasure of living in Germany for 8 years and Japan for 3 years back in the 80's and early 90's. My job (Commodities Broker), allowed me to travel throughout Europe and many parts of Asia. My experiences were wonderful and most of the people I met were also wonderful. Without going into detail, i've seen some interesting customs as well as some odd ones. Thats all relative and it's what makes the world such a unique place to live. But I'm not so naive as to realize that there are good and bad everywhere in this world. Regardless of where we live, bad things happen in all corners! We certainely have our share of bad here in the United States as well as many good. My concern is for these poor animals that are being slautered for their fur, regardless of what country it may or may not be occurring in!

I wear dog fur all the time, and I don't even have to skin the dogs to get it. I can't get rid of the fur. It's everywhere. On a serious note, I think it is sickening. There are humane and inhumane ways to do things, and that is inhumane. I have no problems with people who want to wear genuine fur. I don't happen to want to do so personally, but that is beside the point. Above point is well made. Remove the market for such items and the sale of such items is no longer producing income. No income, no slaughtering in such a manner, or at least a reduced amount. People in India probably think the same of people in the US that eat beef, as people in the US think of people who eat dog in China or wherever. To each country, their own sets of ideology and customs. Each person must decide as an individual what is appropriate for themselves.

I think that eating the dog is a little different than skinning them alive for their fur....unless the dogs they eat are killed inhumanely....if they eat the dog like we do cows fine..but the fur trade needs to be stopped....we in all countries need to do our part in stopping this.

by Blitzen on 15 December 2005 - 14:12

I suspect most of us would never again eat meat of any sort including poultry and veal were we privy to watching the slaughtering process and observing the animals subjected to the cruelties of factory farming right here in the US.
