Hey Uglydog...

Don't feel bad when you have people that don't like to hear what's going on...I know there are good cops...Most of the state cops around here are quite nice people to deal with, but the city and county...A lot of very uptight folks there.

There has been several incidents of police officers over-reacting or hurting people for no good reason.  A cop in Spokane was just tried (don't remember what the outcome was) because he and friends were drinking at a bar, and he shot a guy in the head (didn't kill him, though).  He claimed the guy was trying to steal his truck.  The guy said he was only asking for a ride.  The jury didn't buy the theft story, and acquitted the victim of the charges.  The officer violated numerous rules related to conduct.  Apparently, they aren't supposed to be packing heat when they are off duty and engaging in activities which can mess with their judgement, such as drinking.

Right here in North Idaho earlier this year, a man was killed by police after robbing the liquor store at the local mall...he was only packing a baseball bat.  I don't know why they needed to kill him.  A shot to the hand, arm, leg, or even shoulder would have wounded him and subdued him, but I guess they figured it saved the county some money if they killed him instead.  There was another case of mistaken identity where a man we knew was hit with a Taser...and he had heart trouble.  The shock killed him.  He wasn't the one they were after.  I could go on, there have been many others, but you get the idea.  The town I live in has less than 6000 people, and even Spokane doesn't have a huge population.  I could see this behavior in East LA, where the occupants are barely human, but here, in small town America?

Yes, GreenEarth, there are lots of good cops.  There are also lots of really, really bad ones.  Badge-wearing bullies who figure that badge puts them far above the law.  No one should be above the law, and killing someone should only be done as a last resort, in defense of one's life or the life of another.  A man with a baseball bat...is not a threat to a cop with a gun who is fifteen yards away.

I am going to be the one that speaks up. If this was any other breed of dog - no one would be saying poor dog specially a pit or rottie. Size should have no bearing on it -  a bite is a bite (there is a thread a few months back going over this). The officer was doing thier job "rules are rules" and yes a dog (reguardless of breed or size) was shot and killed ( very sad as the dog has to pay the price for the owners mistake) . The officers did not know if the dog had it's rabbies shot and did the right thing. Owners openly admitted that they left the dog outside while out of town!  Why not board the dog or have some one watch it  Crap happens.

And before anyone comes back and says if it was your dog  YES< I have been in the same position as these people. My German shepherd PPD got out of the fence while I was out of town. I came back to a blocked road and police with shot guns. After them going on my property and trying to catch her  She turned ugly. They shot at her a few times (luckly they missed and I showed up. IN all fairness they had every right!!! but because she did not bite anyone I was able to keep her. Needless to say she was never kenneled again and aways in the house.

Sometime lessons are easily learned and some are very painful. My thoughts go out to the child.

1.  5 pound dog was loose, but apparently returned to its own porch

2.  Dog was tazered

3.  Dog was shot 3 times -- all 5 pounds of him !!

What is wrong with this picture !!!!!   Anyone who defends the actions of the police in this matter has some real "ISSUES" !!

Also, the article stated the family had returned from a funeral -- it didn't state that the family was Out of Town -- maybe they were or maybe they were gone for a couple of hours ??   Regardless, it is outrageous !

E.K.  you surprise me.  Puhleeez.    Cops are people, there are good and bad, some are on an ego trip, probably why they  became policemen in the first place.   These cops were waaaaay out of line.  They killed the dog on the front porch!
They should be sued!

What lesson  was learned here exactly ??

Photos of the 5 pound Chihuhua.  Cute little feller.

Never ask the Blue Ash Police to do the girl scouts job.

Now size doesnt matter, nor the breed, despite the fact the dog is the size of a rat...apologist come out and play.

The Administrator personally told me the cop shot the dog in the hindquarters First, then fired 2 more shots to kill it when the first shot wouldnt subdue the dog.

OMG!   After seeing Jack, I wish it had been a PIT BULL -- then Mr. Cop would really have SOMETHING to COMPLAIN ABOUT !!   This just makes me sick !!

by eichenluft on 10 June 2009 - 15:06

you cannot compare tasering and then shooting to death (took 3 shots for a 5 lb dog that was surely subdued already if not dying from the taser) a CHIHUAHUA, to a Pitbull, Rottie or other "dangerous" breed that could actually do some damage if they chose to bite when idiot person chases and then corners and then grabs at it.  IDIOTS.  The only difference between these two IDIOTS and any other IDIOT is these two happened to have a taser and gun to use when the "dangerous dog" got out of hand - on it's own property/porch.   COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE.

first  I will admitt I misunderstood on them being out of town.

Again people are only looking at the size and breed of the dog and not the rules -  They do not state if a 5 pound Chihuahua  dog bites you or a 90 pound shepherd dog bites you - IF a dog bites you Period.  I don't think rules and laws should be broken just because it is 5 lbs vs 90lbs. People who own small dogs believe they should get away with crap because thier dogs are small and can not do much damage. (before any one says I am a small dog hater I have owned a Jack russel, corgis, I even have cats so that is not the case) I see it all the time, people who have small dogs letting them jump and snap at other dogs and  people (and think it is CUTE)  but are offended when my shepherd jumps on them!  why is there any differences? What is good for one should be good for all.

Yes Police officers are people too I know some really nice ones , some butt wipes and I have personally been  screwed by some. I believe after the dog bit the officer, the dog should of been shot as the rules state  (again regaurdless of size or breed). No ones is going to change my mind on that. Now did they need to shot it three time and taser Well I was not there to witness but personal thoughts I don't think so but again was not there.

Again my female was on her property  - back porch by my husband car  when they corner her and shot at her. I never did hold it against the officers as they were doing thier jobs and would not have if they would of killed her. I would of been heart boken but it is a lesson learned.

Lesson is make sure your dog is contained while you are out.

It is nice to know I surprise and have issues . My day is starting off  hum?

CINCINNATI -- Blue Ash police say they didn't want to shoot a chihuahua-mix, but had no choice.

Scott and Sharon Bullock returned home from a funeral last Friday to find three bullets on their porch and a note to call police about their dog.

Police say the small dog had bit a jogger and they were trying to contain it, when it clamped down on an officer’s hand and would not let go.

A taser didn't work and neither did the first two gun shots, according to police.

“The officer's obligated to try to do something to contain this dog," said Lieutenant Paul Hartinger, of the Blue Ash police department.

"Once they finally did contain it, then the dog attacked the officers,” said Lt. Hartinger.

“The officers, as badly as the officer was getting bitten, he had to do something to protect himself,” said Hartinger. “They first chose physical means, then a taser and when those two didn't work, he had no option but to shoot the dog."

Police say the dog bit the officer 17 times on one hand and nine times on the other.

The officer is expected to recover.

Last night the family told 9News they wondered why the officers didn't call the SPCA to catch the 5 lb. dog.

It DOES NOT take a tazer gun and 3 bullets to bring down a 5 pound dog!!   PERIOD !!   These officers are a disgrace and should not be on the Force.   It is IDIOTS like these that give Police a bad reputation !!
