I have a problem with the recall with my shep. his fine when there is no other dog walk by, but when he sees another dog walk by he will run to them and most times he is agressive toward them. I tried the long lead but he knows its attached to hinm and does not run or pull on the lead, so i can't really teach him not to lung. i think that since he is not neutered he has more of an agressive side to him. anyone have any solutions to this problem.

Analysing a dog issue online is a stretch but it sounds to me like your dog is feeling fearful towards other dogs. Aggression is always based on fear...fear of losing your place in the pack, losing your food, the toy or getting beaten up by a scary dog. What I could recommend it to teach a "watch" command. Do this at home with treats. Give a light pop with the leash...say "watch"...when your dog does...say "YES!!!" and treat. Get this cue solid in all sorts of places. Have him sit and watch you...get family/friends to walk around you, run, hop, clap...all the while teaching the dog to focus on you. Then find a neutral dog and practice this with the dog walking at a distance...go slow. The other dog should not give your dog the "EYE." Be sure to praise your dog when he does things right. Give him a task "SIT" and "Watch" and reward the right behavior. Use your voice..."NO WATCH"..."YES>>>GOOD!". Also go for long calm walks with neutral dogs...together...no head-on passing...keep lots of space between you at first...ask for sits...them walk...use Watch again. Do tons of this. Once he's good with this dog, introduce another dog. You need to be patient...calm...show leadership. Hope this helps.

Hi, May I ask what age he is and what you have taught him to do INDOORS? For instance, have you taught him to lie down? If so, let's imagine that I were to visit and choose a spot in your Living Room, for you to place him into a DOWN. Then we sat somewhere in the room with a cup of tea, how long would he remain laying down in the spot that I had chose? Regards, Vixen
