What is meant when judges put this in the kor report of dogs?

by Sumo on 05 May 2007 - 11:05

I think this means that all four legs are sound and strong with no defect. As in front feet they can be turned outside or one can see a elbow coming out when seen from front. Also from front view Judge can see how well developed briskette and chest proportions. Because front legs should not be too close which is not good. Similarly for hind legs correct distance is maintained between the legs which means feet are strong and no signs of hip diaplaysia seen. Afterall feet are what is most important in a working dog like GSD

As long as the gait is correct, a nice curved back and a deep red and black pigment you have a real working dog like the gsd.

This SHOULD mean the dog is neither cow-hocked nor pigeon-toed, (nor "east-west" in the front); both front and rear, the feet should point straight forward when the dog is in motion. It is not uncommon, however, for a very young dog to have the front feet turn out a little before their chest is fully developed.

'Straight' refers to an imaginary line drawn from the elbow through the pastern down to the foot, in the front...... and in the rear, from the hip socket, through the knee and hock to the foot. Any deviation from this line, ie foot, knee etc turned in or out, is considered a fault. The line however, doesn't have to remain vertical, particulary at a faster trot, where convergence allows the feet to move closer together but still maintaining the straight line. In fact a GSD that remained parallel at a fast trot would not be moving at best efficiency.

Imagine a STRAIGHT LINE passing underneath the dogs body... All four feet in line with all four legs should step on that straight line while going on the forward motion...
