Protein needs for pups - Page 1

I brought home a 12 week old pup on the weekend, and now I have to find a new food for her, as the one the breeder had her on is not available here in Canada. What is the optimal protein content for a GSD puppy? I've heard that too high a content can be harmful. The food she is on now is 18% but it's not a puppy food. One of the recommended brands of puppy food was 32%. Food specifically for large breed puppies was only 26% Which would be the best, all other factors being equal?

I recommend 26-28% protein puppy food until 4months then switch to a 24-26% protein adult food. Giving a raw egg poured over food 2times a week, and adding potatoes, pasta and rice anytime we have it. Hope this helps. Kari
